Thanks all for the warm welcome. My second Venty arrived today and it is so much better. It has a new heating element type aroma but nothing like the acrid burnning from the first one.

Thanks @Rimmerworld. I decided to go all in with an S&B Venty but had to send the first one back today because it produced an unpleasant acrid burnt plastic smell/taste. A replacement is coming tomorrow so hopefully that'll be better.
