Cookies launches first medical cannabis in UK

People in the UK who are prescribed medical cannabis through a private clinic can now request flower from the global cannabis brand Cookies, according to a press release seen by leafie.

The first strain available, Hawaiian Rain, is a high-potency flower containing 31% THC. Priced at £11 a gram, it is the expensive flower available on prescription at the time of publication. Patients prescribed medical cannabis through private clinics and partnering pharmacies can request the product, which is described as meeting “the highest pharmaceutical-grade standards” from today, Monday, 14 April.

Cookies genetics have been made available through a partnership between Somaí Group and Mamedica®, a UK-based digital healthcare platform that offers both clinic and prescribing services to patients.

“This partnership with Cookies signals a new era for UK medical cannabis patients,” said Jon Robson, CEO and founder of Mamedica.

“By combining Mamedica’s clinical expertise with Cookies’ world-class genetics and brand heritage, we’re delivering premium cannabis products backed by science, safety, and patient-centred care.”

The flower has been grown under an exclusive license deal between the US brand and Somaí Group, a Portugal-based cannabis cultivation company, as reported by leafie in 2024. It is expected that further strains and extracts will be available to patients in the UK imminently.

“We’re excited to partner with Mamedica to bring Cookies to the UK medical cannabis space,” said Berner, Founder and CEO of Cookies. “Our goal has always been to make our genetics accessible to patients globally, and the UK is a key part of that mission.”

According to the press release, there are now an estimated 80,000 people actively receiving cannabis-based prescription medicines in the UK. By partnering with globally recognised brands such as Cookies, Mamedica says it is “not only expanding patient choice, but also evolving the conversation around symptomatic relief in the UK, ensuring more people can benefit from safe, high-quality cannabis-based treatments.”

It's Mamedica®, they've had MASSIVE supply issues.
I believe their dispensary is oversubscribed in comparison to their ability to meet patient demand...

They had their own brand when I first became a patient at the end of 2024. I don't see it in their online dispensary profile now.

I've been really disappointed that I've been unable to get what I wanted from MAMEDICA, and had my recent prescriptions fulfilled by Newgrove.

Hello mate, when your ready transfer clinic - easy + free, better selection at Alternaleaf.

They can stick that right up where they keep other £11g strains :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
It's a F@#£ING disgrace that mass produced medical cannabis is more expensive than black market Cannabis

These private clinics are making an absolute fortune out of sick and disabled people that are trying to stay on the correct side of the law.

It would be far cheaper for me to continue to source my cannabis on the black market as I have done for the last 32 years in comparison to the cost of the 60 grams per month that I buy from my Mamedica®.

The market price of medical cannabis should be coming down, NOT going up to the values of £11-£13 per gram.

The prices charged are absolute daylight robbery.

The prices charged on oils are prohibitively expensive and the quality is not brilliant.

I've paid £180 for 30ml of 100mg Full Spectrum THC oil.

RSO IS HALF THAT PRICE ON THE BLACK MARKET AND THE QUALITY IS INFINITELY BETTER

WE THE PEOPLE ARE BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY THE PRIVATE MEDICAL CANNABIS INDUSTRY

THE RECENT PETITION TO ALLOW MEDICAL CANNABIS USERS TO GROW CANNABIS AT HOME HAS BEEN DENIED BY THE GOVERNMENT.

FOR THE SIMPLE REASON THAT IT IS MPS AND THEIR SPOUSES THAT ARE FINANCING THE PRIVATE CLINICS AND MAKING MONEY OUT OF US

WE THE PEOPLE ARE PISSED OFF

These £11/g prospectors need to be left holding their overpriced goods and wondering why and it did seem like these prices were becoming extinct but one or two more are trying their luck again we see and frankly financially when I look over £8/g I'm just teasing myself and have finally resigned myself to looking in the £5 -£7/g range and also having had a bit of BM recently I'd say MC has to raise it's game quality and pricewise (y)

I've got some pretty big issues with Mamedica®, and wish I hadn't stupidly paid the £200 flat fee for life when I joined them last year, and now I'm kinda stuck with them until I can afford to move to a different clinic.

One of the many issues I have with my clinic is the attitude of clinic staff when discussing my medical cannabis needs.

I suffer with allergies (Limonene and Linalool in particular), I have a MAST Cell condition and I am histamine intolerant.

This means I'm limited in terms of what strains I can use for therapeutic benefit because of the terpene profiles.

MAMEDICA consistently fail to fulfill my prescription of 60g medical cannabis per month through their own dispensary.

This is not only because their dispensary is very poorly stocked, with limited choice, has poor quality products (Tillray & Curaleaf), a lack of variety (Sativa, Hybrid & Indica), and strains that contain major allergen terpenes, but also very pricey, prohibitively expensive strains that are more expensive on the gram than black market cannabis.

When discussing this with Mamedica clinic staff I have basically been told in a very patronising way that there are strains without major Limonene and Linalool terpene profiles available, but they are more expensive than I am prepared to pay!

I have taken offence at this and I really have not appreciated the tone of voice with which I have been spoken to by numerous Clinic Staff when discussing these issues.

So, having patients with affordability issues seems to be a sticking point for MAMEDICA (despite their £200 lifetime charge for access patients), who have not increased their range of medical cannabis flowers in the £5 -£7 price bracket, but have rather increased their stock lines of cultivars in the £7 - £13 price bracket instead!

The lack of suitable strains within my budget means that I regularly
have to pay additional fees to Mamedica to have my prescription fulfilled by different dispensaries.

So all in all, considering the attitude of staff and being unable to get what I want I can't wait to afford to change clinics.

I feel so strongly about my experience with MAMADICA that I have today submitted a report to the CQC

Well done in standing up as there are a lot of ongoing complaints and I was just about to drop a link for the CQC but seems you have already gone ahead and I had similar troubles to yourself trying to keep costs down when I was with Mamedica® as the bottom of the formulary was poor often leading to trying more expensive meds often without success.

Changing clinics should not be a problem as this is free with some and first year for free also but others are £10/month and that can be saved by having better choice in theory.
Also bare in mind some other clinics have similar sized formularies with similar frustrations but service in my opinion is much better so many things to weigh up and totally understand your frustration with your predicament .

Thanks @GrownHealth

I've discussed the above issues at length with Mamedica®.

I've expressed dissatisfaction to Mamedica many times.

I am spoken to in a very patronizing and condescending manner whenever I call Mamedica Clinic, and I believe this is a director result of my complaints to the clinic. EVERY Male Clinic Staff Member refers to me as "Madam" and I noticed change in their voice and attitude once they've inputted my patient number in their database.

This certainly does not endear me to my prescribing clinic when I know that I am being spoken to in a derogatory manner as a direct result of my very valid complaints.

I've yet to speak to ANY Female member of staff from Mamedica Clinic.

However, Nicola in their Dispensary has been very helpful in the past, she has also verbally confirmed that Mamedica have supply and demand issues. I've had NO problem with dispensary staff.

I don't believe I would experience the same attitude problems in the public sector or any other private healthcare provider.

It is not acceptable that I should have to experience and endure such attitude from a Medical Cannabis Prescribing Clinic.

It's down to us not to pay those prices but we do

Your welcome ,

The switch in tone you describe after giving your name to them is ominous and sorts of says it all really like anyone who raises something with them is a problem whether their complaint is valid or not and this is not nice to be on the receiving end of especially when we are paying a lot of money for these services and products .

Also remembering back there were a few in the dispensary that were great which helps but doesn't take away from your treatment by the clinic .

Don't torture yourself it so easy to change clinic and most of them would never treat anyone like that

Its a venture capatalist linked clinic and pharmacy its what they do and have always done. They will ignore your feedback the CQC will likely take no action. Its the wild west at the minute the CQC got declared as not fit for purpose. Its a bit like my local ombudsman i bet where i submitted a big document got a nope back with my points mixed up and some words reworded. The whole Uk is a downright mess i hate it nothing works. I hate Mamedica too.

Also there is nothing more funny than the £11 a gram chancers who after 60 days shit themsevles and knock the price to £8. We should email them the moment it happens with laughing emojis and tell them to stick it at £8 too! Let it rot and decompose at the pharmacys.

I did mention in a post exactly that about the £11 prospectors to just leave them high and dry with their 'elite' priced products ,they'd soon learn !!

What choice do we have?

The only power I feel I have with Mamedica® is to get my script fulfilled by an alternative pharmacy.

How else can we influence the extortionate prices they're charging?

Can't say I preach what I practice but if we adopt a no more than 8.50 approach those that produce more expensive flowers will have to reduce to match that majority its supply and demand. And actually in the year I've been on medical I've seen this with a few brands .. the more choice the more competition

New Montu carts on catalogue, dont remember seeing them on MedBud?

I simply won't pay it. The most I have paid was 8.50g and this happened to be the most effective strain so far, infuriating lol. I too tend to order from the £5-7g range. I do look out for reduced stock of the more expensive strains for e.g. I've just put in a repeat and have the Aurora® Cosmic Cream at £6.50g. I have also ordered the DOE Jack Herer at £8.50g so will probably cry when paying for it lol. I simply don't believe any strain is worth more. It has become an 'instagrammable' status thing with everyone one upping each other. Bizarre. Cannabis is for the people but sadly it has been commodified and marketed by disingenuous salesmen. If there was a producer/clinic/pharmacy that bucked this trend and refused to stock these brands I'd sign up today.
