I think there is additional nuance between medicating symptoms and the time of day it is required. I've had strains that 'work' but aren't suitable for the time of day/night that I'm trying to fit them in to.

Edibles have never worked very well for me unless I take massive doses. I think something like 1 in 4 people metabolise too efficiently and need much higher doses
