Branching Up
So today was day 2 of my 100mg morning dose—tomorrow will be my last before the next increase to 200mg morning dose. Yesterday absolutely kicked my arse.
I'd forgotten to get my meds out the night before (classic me), and instead of just grabbing one from the dosette box next to me, I waited until my fiancé was awake… meaning I didn’t take it until 11am. Second mistake. That was me “awake” (in the loosest sense) desperately trying to play my mobile game event, which requires actual concentration—a big ask under normal circumstances, let alone after morning Gabapentin.
Most of the 6-hour event was spent with me slumped against the chair next to my bed, one eye open, trying to stay conscious. I know it’s just a game, but I’ve got mates there, and my character is kinda legendary now. They needed my “power”! By 8pm the drowsiness had worn off and energy returned—but I was ravenous. I’d been handed my refilled vape throughout the day, because I was too out of it to sort it myself. No pain relief, though.
So, today I had a plan. I took one of the gabas I had stashed and popped it straight after my early morning march to the bathroom at 6am. Back in bed, meds taken. Game changer. Okay, sorta.
My cats’ parkour routine woke me at 11am and… I actually felt refreshed. Like, genuinely. Not something I’ve experienced in at least 25 years—definitely not on any of the sleep meds I’ve been on. That said, the pain was still there. Unchanged. Still marching through my joints like a toddler tantrum in steel-toe boots. But that clarity? That restfulness? Huge.
I know most folks say Gabapentin doesn’t touch the pain until week 3 at the earliest, so I’ll hold out hope. I just don’t know how I’m meant to manage it once I’ve got that middle dose going—can’t exactly sleep through my life like I’m 80 one minute and 8 the next.
Anyway, it’s technically day 3 now (night owl problems), but I count it as day 2 until I sleep. Vaping a bit for the headspace—doesn’t kill the pain, but massages it enough to keep going. Head’s clear, hope’s still burning, and I’m grateful every day that medical cannabis is a legal option.
Over and out.
