Site Updates Automatic Double-Post Merging

We've added a new feature that merges posts made in quick succession, to help tidy up threads where members make their replies over multiple posts:



New posts will still trigger alerts/notifications as before. Right now we've set the timeout for the feature at an hour, but will revise over time.

There's an exception set for the first reply to a new thread

Auto-merging does not educate forum members, imho it encourages lazier thinking as the issue is corrected for them.

Really appreciate insight into this from someone who has decent experience. outside of being an annoying git I know nothing of forums and their inner workings.

I really like what you said above specifically, t's a perspective I had never considered myself and I think it's a really fair and valid point.

Thanks for the reply. An alternative may be to create a "lounge area" which is not publically available, signed up memebers only, what is allowed would be up for debate, there happy single line rapid fire banter would be at home I have tried similar in the past. An area can have seperate sticky threads,"Late Night Bar? "Breakfast banter" or whatever.

At the moment it seems to me that perhaps the " ... consuming today" thread is trying to be too many things at once.

For MedBud it could be the Vape Lounge, something some hanker after in bricks and mortar form.

Consuming today thread has morphed a lot, there used to be a general chat thread that took a lot of the daily discussion. I guess it fell to one side.

Some good ideas for sure man and with the forum feeling like it's becoming more and more popular I can certainly where they could be useful.

lol, I'm still getting lost in the corridors of MedBud, but I didn't find a members only area, could be repurposed perhaps, I would say General chat should be on the members only side.

I'll take another look, but where is it? EDIT, found it, hidden away, some attempts to liven it up there.
