From our X account
Somewhat of a passion project for a while has been figuring out how to build a full genetic lineage system for all cultivars/strains (early screenshot).
Circled in green below, how should we handle situations where there's a cross - but it wasn't originally released by the first known breeder, and later became known by that name from another breeder creating the same cross?
The example here is 'Chronic' from Serious Seeds which uses 'AK-47 x Skunk #1' as part of the cross - today that's known as 'Skunk 47', but was bred independently by World of Seeds long after the fact. Serious Seeds themselves never launched a 'Skunk 47'.
Should we be crediting the original cross to Serious Seeds, because it's the true heritage for 'Chronic' - or should we be crediting World of Seeds because they first stabilised, named and released the strain?
On dedicated cultivar pages, more detail can be given - but on a diagram with limited space it's hard to know how to best handle the situation.
