Site Updates Genetic Lineage System.

General updates on development of the MedBud platform as a whole.

Somewhat of a passion project for a while has been figuring out how to build a full genetic lineage system for all cultivars/strains (early screenshot).

Circled in green below, how should we handle situations where there's a cross - but it wasn't originally released by the first known breeder, and later became known by that name from another breeder creating the same cross?

The example here is 'Chronic' from Serious Seeds which uses 'AK-47 x Skunk #1' as part of the cross - today that's known as 'Skunk 47', but was bred independently by World of Seeds long after the fact. Serious Seeds themselves never launched a 'Skunk 47'.

Should we be crediting the original cross to Serious Seeds, because it's the true heritage for 'Chronic' - or should we be crediting World of Seeds because they first stabilised, named and released the strain?

On dedicated cultivar pages, more detail can be given - but on a diagram with limited space it's hard to know how to best handle the situation.

Think i would go with released by, but seed heads may want it the other way around!

Could you do it by clicking into seedbanks then showing the lineage or would that be harder for patients and yourself.

You might run into problems with other WOS seeds like colombian gold , amnesia, afghan kush maybe but thats all i see really so 3 , I would put an asterix next to not original breeder of named genetics or combination , I think by seedbank is best if you can

We're looking to replace all our links to Leafly with dedicated pages, which can have multiple sources/citations - and even videos or old magazine articles, for cases where the original breeder has been interviewed.

Once the interlinking between strains is properly built, we should be able to get the system to show alternative medications using either child or parent cultivars.

This will definitely launch, but we'll need volunteers to help build out the history across 200+ cultivars so far. Pretty sure we'll end up with 'Cannabis Historian' as a dedicated position here one day😅

For geneology - I'd have to check but pretty sure I have seen a researcher use process flowchart types with boxes that include a magnifier - click on that to see the sub process etc. So perhaps a "3d" process chart, could be applied here.🤔

I dont know if you would include but i bet a few bought kept and bred with nl1 being northern lights in the 90s and later changed to nl5x2 at end of 90s.

Quality reading on the northern lights kush hashplant lines bit of a debate nowadays but all there quoted and good historic read
