Clinic
Still Deciding
Hello 👋

I’m Rik.

I’m currently self-employed, mainly because working “normally” hasn’t really been doable for me (ADHD stuff). I’ve been self-medicating for quite a while now (around 10–12 years) and I’m trying to move over to doing things properly and legally through a UK clinic.

I’ve been reading this forum for days and I still feel a bit lost on the basics — especially how clinics/pharmacies work and what you actually end up paying month to month. The consultation prices are easy to find, but the medication costs, delivery external fees and whether you’re locked into one pharmacy feels really unclear.

My main questions:

  • How do you choose a clinic without ending up stuck with limited medication options?
  • Can you use an external pharmacy, and are there extra fees if you do?
  • For anyone on low income / receiving PIP or other support — are there any discounts, compassionate schemes, or realistic ways to keep the ongoing costs manageable?
Any advice from people who’ve been through the process would be massively appreciated. 🙏

You can always support my journey 😥😂

Thanks for taking time to read my long intro!

Hello fellow ADHD patient!

I can't answer you most of the stuff, as I am with Cannabis Clinic Cardiff and they flexibly order from wherever the product is available, but they're not considered budget friendly. No delivery fees tho, no consultation or prescription fees, only the monthly clinic fees and pay for the flower.

I take 40g a month. I try to focus on sub-£60 strains only, so I keep it around £200 a month for this amount. Sometimes a £65 slips in, sometimes I get lucky with a £30 or £40 discounted bud.

Welcome to the forum @Rik and it looks like you are after a clinic where costs are low and you need availability to cheaper medicines and you'll find a few clinics with near to no extra costs apart from your meds and say £5/month whether that's for delivery of membership with free delivery it works out about the same and this is clinics like Alternaleaf , Medicann , Curaleaf and CB1 Medical and with CB1 you a one off £50 fee then postage with each delivery and they say you can use outside pharmacies and this costs a delivery fee charge for your prescription being sent to the other pharmacy where as Medicann will not let you select outside pharmacies and you have to select from their own formulary only and some find this suitable and some not , Integro is similar to Medicann but allow you to use an outside pharmacy but are a little more expensive with consultancy fees .

I am a carer myself and my wife a PIP recipient and so far on medical we have not obtained any discounts on services or meds due to our situation apart from the Grow Access Project scheme but to be fair that seems to have dwindled away to nothing.

Hi Rick, welcome.
Each clinic has a formulary, this is a list of the medications that clinic will prescribe. Some of the formularies can be viewed in the clinic tab but unfortunately not all of them. I think Cardiff cannabis clinic cover all medications but can be expensive to sign up to. I’m with Mamedica® and find there formulary good, have a wide range in most of the time. I’m sure others can give advice on this

External pharmacies, yes you can get your medication from any pharmacy providing the medication is on their formulary, with Mamedica there is a £10 charge for doing this, and you will have to get this done either by phone or email.

Flower costs , the flower costs are listed under the bud/flower tab with £/g indicated. Bags are generally 10g each. Lowest cost I’ve seen is around£3.50-4/g all the way up to £11/g. The monthly cost is depends on what you order and you also don’t have to order your full allowance every month, the order can be split but generally at an extra cost, for Mamedica it’s £10 for every delivery you have except the first in your 28 day cycle.

All this being said you can transfer between clinics fairly easily if you want to so you are not committed to that clinic if it doesn’t work for you.

A couple of things to be aware of for your first consultation. If you have a high tolerance make sure to communicate that, sometimes people have a THC limit put on them so can’t order anything over 25%THC for instance, if that won’t work for you make a point of it. Also be very honest about how much you use, I now have a monthly limit of 90g but was limited to 60g for a few months. You will generally start at 60g a month or below depending on how much you use but can ask for an increase on a monthly basis.

Do some reading on irradiation of the flower. This is done to make the flower clean but can ruin it, gamma is very harsh, beta is better and no irradiated generally even better.

Personally I try to get my monthly order to average out as £200 per oz as that means I’m saving compared to the black market prices available to me locally.

Hope that helps, welcome aboard and enjoy the ride.

Cheers

For the cheaper priced meds with a decent option of such meds both of those clinics would be more suitable than CB1 as my wife is a patient with CB1 and the options at Integro/ Alternaleaf are much better for our needs .

well i hope i dont have to wait too long😅

maybe its good i couldnt use NHS app, il keep browsing for a while, until my records come through.
