Clinics I was refused a medication because it wasn't on the Mamedica formulary.

I recently wrote a repeat prescription and asked for a fulfillment charge to be sent so that I could get some oils from outside of my regular clinic. I have gotten stuff outside before and it wasn't a problem. But this time the clinician wrote back and said "Unfortunately BCM are not on our formulary and we only prescribe medications in our formulary." I thought that it was our right as patients to get medication from wherever we wished? Is this not the case? Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum @sbo1234

Mamedica®'s stance on this is they will only prescribe items on their formulary or that have been on but are not in stock with them anymore from my experience and to the best of my knowledge .
I do know with CB1 Medical they say where this is the case they will contact the supplier to see if suitable and this may take longer but it seems Mamedica don't take the same approach.
I'm currently switching from Mamedica partly because of formulary limitations and the bother I had using an outside pharmacy and would doubt Mamedica would prescribe you this until it comes onto their formulary,

Also on the pharmacies page here it states.
By default, your clinic may try to prescribe products from their own default partner pharmacy; which can limit your range of available options. You have a legal right to freely choose which pharmacy your prescription is sent to. Your prescribing specialist may not be familiar with products available through non-partner pharmacies. Your doctor is unable to attempt to influence choice in pharmacy; provide endorsements; nor make claims of improved service from one pharmacy over another.
Which looks like it covers the prescriber as they are not familiar but you still have a legal right to chose pharmacy. (y)

Plus I know a member here who is at CB1 Medical went through an outside pharmacy ( Newgrove)and obtained the BCM oils you speak of .

Patients can have their prescription sent to any pharmacy of their choosing, however clinics/clinicians can't be forced into prescribing any particular medications.
