I'll see what we can find out(further clarification) and discussing this yesterday the pricing seems a great thing mate so bring it on and hopefully it will be a challenge

It's finally happened, the first free sign-up and no-fee UK medical cannabis clinic has launched from @MedicannClinics, powered by @ScriptAssistUK .

Just a £4.99 delivery/prescription charge, from veteran pharmacy partner @IPS_Pharma, or another.

Bright days ahead for UK MC

I am so skeptical about this.

We already know clinics operate at huge losses as it is, where and how are they getting their income to pay for their overheads? Doctors fees? Etc.

I admit I am ignorant to anything about them outside of this post but it all just sounds a little to good to be true.

@joint_account + all really - I've had a lot of experience with Shady industries (you yourself too I think) eg "squeaky clean" lol NOKIA mobile phones was also very very dirty, esp in certain terrorities - where they HAD to be. - esp - pre-high volume if that makes sense? So until a clinic such as this - very promising brand spanking new - assures me and many other high spend patients of weekend service at its default pharmacy - I'm sticking with the devils I know...

No need to be cynical here, Medicann is one of the oldest medical cannabis clinics - they've just only operating in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man so far. We know a lot of their history in the industry, even if UK/mainland patients haven't quite seen it yet. We've long expected UK clinics to drop to a zero-fee model, and Medicann is simply the first to take the dive with their mainland launch.

The clinic losses will be offset by pharmacy sales via IPS no doubt, this is the common model for many companies right now. While not immediately, we've 'semi-confirmed' at least one big clinic will drop fees to follow a similar model - and then no doubt others will follow suit.

It's a genuine offer, and we're not expecting any 'catches' - the only strong public point we'll make now is that they must still properly allow patients to use other pharmacies if they request. Our understanding right now is there will be a £4.99 fee used either writing scripts to external pharmacies, or as the delivery fee when using IPS - similar to CB1 Medical.

@Muiredach I think we all have different expectations. I'm used to peeps with money voting with wallets/purses+feet across several e-commerce fields - its brutal but again - whomever offers next day delivery 7 days a week - will take the market, price elastic. Further, unless IPS, Specials and the industry dinosaurs change (WORK 7 DAYS!!!!) - I'll remain doing it as cheaply as possible, with JIT partial script support. Also del is currently free for me at CB1 Medical - that would save me £20+ a month compared to Medicann...

Does this not push us further into this backwards market though?

You yourself have said it's a race to the bottom for a lot of pharmacies in markets outside of the UK and I feel like these pharmacy partnerships only push us further away from that being a reality for us here.

It's no doubt good for the current model I just don't know if the current model is good for us.

I've made a few comments on this already today, yes - I feel when clinics have finished racing to the bottom on clinical fees, the next major battleground will become pharmacies selling meds under RRP to attract patients to use them. It's inevitable in the long-run.

It will work out better for patients, but then we may also see increased fragmentation/segregation of availability, if suppliers start trying to cut off pharmacies selling under RRP to protect margin or not to 'devalue' their brand. Our anti-price fixing laws do not allow a supplier and pharmacy to agree any sales price together (though weirdly agreeing a maximum sales price is allowed) - and the only way they really have to enforce RRP is to cut-off supply to those selling under it.

I feel Medicann's model is a catalyst to moving us towards lower med costs. To give an example, Medicann right now can attract patients by dropping all the way down to a zero-fee model, but no-one entering the market in the future can really follow suit, because patients choose established names they can find reviews/info on, and will 90%+ of the time choose them over the random newbie if pricing is the same. In the future when some random new company enters the UK market (even with deep pockets to market themselves), there's zero reason for patients to start using them over more established competitors when they both have the same zero-cost pricing model - unless medication costs are lower.

Effectively, the only way left for new companies to attract a ton of new patients (after zero-fees becomes the norm), is to start dropping med prices in their pharmacies.

Truly believe this is what will happen in the long-run.

- At this exact time - NONE of them are even close to good enough for me, for all different reasons.
For logistics - Alternaleaf, IF its in stock = crazy, CB1 Medical over charging left, right + real dirty when they want to be (like them all ime) aren't they?
Cannabis Clinic Cardiff - who also appear to be signa11ing - do they even know this? - I suspect they do. Overpriced too at £33 <sigh> , to me.
Further I will still be recommending my current clinic (as of 29/07/25 cb1) as they kept to their promises around very busy "greenrush" holidays which proved vital to me - Christmas/New Year/Easter etc.
