Ahead of this year’s Cannabis Europa conference, taking place between 24–25 June 2025 at the Barbican Centre, London, Prohibition Partners have sent an open invitation to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to speak publicly on the landmark recommendations of the London Drugs Commission (LDC) during the event.
Earlier this week, Business of Cannabis reported that the LDC, set up by Khan almost exactly three years ago, had published its final report on the state of UK drug policy, finding that ‘wholesale prohibition treats cannabis in a manner that is disproportionate to its harms’, particularly for ethnic minorities in the capital.
Among its core recommendations to address this imbalance is the reclassification of cannabis, removing it from the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (MDA) to the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 (PSA), effectively decriminalising the possession of cannabis, while other cannabis offences like distribution or cultivation would remain criminally punishable.
The letter, penned by the event’s organisers, praises Khan’s role in commissioning the independent review but says now is the time for ‘clarity, courage, and action’ in shaping cannabis reform.
Prohibition Partners and Cannabis Europa say they have waited patiently for the conclusion of the LDC review and are calling on the Mayor to address its findings on stage before an international audience.
