Talking with clinics recently, we believe there's now around 75-85,000 UK patients active in the past month, and around 100,000 over the past three months.
Best estimates now have new patient intake around 5,000 per month across all clinics.
Unfortunately no full figures exist.
Q. Would there be a way of finding out exact numbers do you think?
A. No, most clinics consider their exact patient stats as commercially sensitive. There was a point about 18 months ago where Prof. Mike Barnes (UKMCCS
) was able to get most clinics to reveal stats - and we've been working from them since.
There are numerous clinics happy to reveal with stats to us in confidence, and that gives us some gauge on how patient numbers are growing over time - but this seems about the best we're going to get as things stand.
Freedom of information requests are able to reveal details about growth in import numbers and overall prescriptions issued, but this still doesn't reliably indicate the overall number of active patients.
