In our wee staff room, @GrownHealth and I are discussing having one thread for each company or product - and then merging new threads about the same listing into a singular discussion thread.
For news pieces where several companies/meds are covered, the proposal is to link individual discussion threads, then lock the main post to try keep everything in one place for each.
The idea behind this is that we can integrate a single main thread into each listing on the main database, starting to integrate and unite both sides of the site. If there's continually new threads popping up about the same topic, it'll be hard to continually have to manually associate them on the main database - though manual work would have to be done to some degree already to merge into a main topic just on the forums.
Alternatively, we could instead have @Holly reply to main threads noting wherever listings are also mentioned across the forum - though this is harder to maintain and keep updated overall IMO. Also harder to integrate multiple topics into one main site listing, though not impossible.
Thoughts and feedback?
