Hi all.
I'm 44, female, have a long history of pelvic pain.
This was diagnosed as endometriosis after around 25 years of going to the Dr.
I've had multiple laparoscopies, which culminated in a total hysterectomy 2 years ago.
Since the hysterectomy, I seem to have developed widespread pain throughout my body and crippling exhaustion as well as still getting the endometriosis pain.. yay!
I was seen in the pain clinic this week and the consultant said the only help I could get on NHS would be pregabalin, but warned me that in her experience, given my symptoms she feels it would be risky and could permanently impair my cognitive abilities.
She suggested this site for me to look at and said that she felt that medical marijuana would be the best treatment for me going forward.
So, how do you take it? I don't smoke, I had edibles back in the early 90's but none since.
How much does it cost, and how does the clinic charging work?
I spend most of my days in a state of confusion so trying to figure this out is hard going..
I'm also finding the attitude of some family members quite challenging.
Any advice welcome
Cheers
Roo

Welcome to the group Roo. Medical Cannabis should really help you with your Condition/s. There are lots of lovely people here who suffer with all sorts of different conditions regarding pain and the mental stress that comes with it, as well as people with their stigmatism, we have all experienced this in one way or another. I'm with a clinic called CB1 Medical and they are connected to the NHS. Consultations are normally £50 per year for as many consultations as you need. Are you new to Cannabis?

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I'm new to it, well, haven't even got as far as choosing a clinic, trying to figure out if it is something I can afford, and how I'd take it.. I guess I need to send some emails and see what comes of it.
Welcome @impendingbender you can get all the info here, much easier than emails. It's a bit quiet today but keep asking away and as folk come online you will get more answers.
They do do edibles but i know nothing about them, others will hopefully.
I would say CB1 Medical is probably the best clinic to start with as it simplifies the process by having access to NHS records, it's also about the cheapest in fees, but others here may suggest a better one for edibles.
I can't comment on the cost as not sure on edible costs. The cost is dictated by the product and amount you are prescribed.
Hopefully someone with edible knowledge will answer over the weekend.

It looks like edibles maybe the way to go if your looking at Cannabis Treatment and you've not tried Cannabis before. I'm not Familiar with Medical edibles only the ones I have made myself. There will be someone here who is more familiar with medical edibles than myself. I would Phone CB1 Medical, they are pretty helpful over the phone. They are closed now until Monday Morning.

Welcome aboard.

To be frank the cost per gramme of THC in edibles vs Flowers (Bud to be vaped by law smoked by outlaws ;) ) is astronomical. You can get 5 grammes of 20%+ flower for 5 a gramme or less which equates to around £25 per gramme of THC. The edibles so far come in at around £200 upwards per gramme. I have put the price pre gramme on the edibles announced/updated recently.

So my first question is would you vape? If yes get flowers.

If no, are you up for a bit of diy? You can decarb flowers and cook with them or you can make your own concentrates from the flower then make your own edibles with that?

Thanks for your reply.

Welcome @impendingbender and you will be able to find the answers you need here amongst us regards costs and methods of medication no problem and a lot is to do with cost balanced against service as some clinics cost from £10/month and then your medication cost and any help you need with advice on clinics please do ask as that is what we do here .

Regards method of administration there are a few methods ranging from sublingual oils that simply go under your tongue to flower that patients vaporise in dry herb vaporisers but you can get capsules and also vape cartridges which patients like as they are discreet but most of all this medicine works for a lot of people where as conventional medicine hasn't .

Really feel free to ask and welcome 👏

Ah i forgot about oil, if you have never smoked then the choices are Oil or Edibles, and as stated above the edibles appear expensive, but you could make your own ie brownies etc for the price of bud. But i think i I were you i would start with oil as its more commonly used and more economic than edibles (unless you make your own).

You won't need to spend a lot of money because of low dosage
I would recommend cannabis oil
Great point so a clinic would cost from £120/year fees and possibly 30ml of oil at approximately £90/month depending on amount needed to find correct relief using that example of low tolerance . (y)

With this it varies from clinic to clinic
  1. CB1 Medical you would pay a one off fee of £50 at the beginning when you become a patient and that covers everything clinic wise then each month you would pay postage of just under £6 and the cost of your medicine which hopefully would not total too much as you are new to cannabis and hopefully benefit from this in keeping costs low as opposed to a patient who has been using cannabis tending to need more to get the same effect.
  2. Alternaleaf you pay £10/month and this would cover postage for one prescription per month and clinic fees then you would just have to pay for your medication .

I've always classed oils as edibles because it's take through the cake hole 🤣🤣

Hi and welcome!

As someone who has been on pregabalin for over 2 years, I'd warn anyone away from using the medication unless they had to.

It has negatively impacted nearly every aspect of my life - sleep, eating, everything. I am very angry that no one told me I could get MC, pregabalin led to a terrible addiction and I know lots of people with health issues because of it. The dr's do not tell you how addictive it is, they said my withdrawal symptoms were symptoms of my illness which is totally outrageous.

Alternaleaf is ten pounds a month + medication, and Grow Access Project to help with payments for medication. It is expensive, but it is far better than the alternative which is basically brain damage. I do not know if i will ever recover normal brain function, executive function and so on. Family can be difficult because of taboo, but show them what people are saying here and please do not damage yourself and your health because of stigma.

Hit me up if you need a hand, cheers,
Lozz

Hi,
Thank you all for your advice.
I've been unwell so have only just got back to looking into this, I think I will probably look at oil.
I will be seeing my pain clinic consultant again in the next few weeks, she works for one of the private clinics.
I gave the pregabalin a go, took 4 doses over 2 days and spent it feeling drunk, there was a time I'd have loved that but not when you're already struggling to get things done.

Cheers

Yeah, I'd just get started straight away with your application. Choose a clinic and go for it - most have a very easy sign up process and do all the legwork for you in the background, and your consultant will be in a better position than us to recommend routes of administration, doses and products once they know your medical history and history/lack of history with cannabis etc.

The great thing about medical cannabis is that its side effects are usually very minimal compared to more standard pharmaceutical approaches, particularly for pain. If it turns out you enjoy the feeling of the THC "high" then great - it's unlikely to harm you in the long term unlike the "feeling drunk" you've experienced already. If you don't enjoy it, then you can titrate the strength, try different routes of administration and different products until you find that sweet spot where it deals with your symptoms without the psychoactive effects - options that are rarely available with other approaches.

FYI, I'm with Curaleaf and I just got an e-mail from them reminding that it's endometriosis awareness month in March, so I'm sure they'd be happy to welcome you particularly at this time - but other great recommendations have been made already. It's a valid condition on the list and I'd assume with your long history you'd have tried 2 conventional treatments without complete success so I'm sure in 4-6 weeks time you'll be trying your first doses of medical cannabis and hopefully finding relief in it.

🌿 When the prescriptions stop working, we start looking elsewhere.
For many of us, that journey leads to medical cannabis — not as a miracle, but as a meaningful shift toward relief.

This week, I dropped a new video using Curaleaf’s 20mg THC / 10mg CBD full spectrum oil, crafted into a gentle, nourishing drink designed to support better absorption for those of us whose bodies have been through it — especially after harsh medications like pregabalin.

I’m not a doctor — just someone who’s walked the road and has been making these blends for years, especially for a family member with ALS who couldn’t tolerate most meds.

If you’re navigating chronic pain, exhaustion, or the fog that follows long-term pharmaceuticals, this one’s for you.
🫶 You're not alone, and your healing matters.
