If you've watched any auditing on YouTube, you know that neither the SIA nor any of the major or minor security agencies in the UK are able to communicate even the most basic tenets of UK law to their members and staff. Auditors embarrass these companies tens of times per day at this point for the whole world to see, and it could all end with a simple e-mail communication or maybe a one-day course. Do they do it? Either they don't, or their staff are too thick or lacking in the comprehension of the English language to take it in.

The truth is that as long as the security industry is the go-to career for knuckle-dragging meat-heads with nothing going on between the eyes, and some of the lowest quality migrants that make it into the UK, nothing is going to change on this issue or any security agency issue in general.

And never mind medical cannabis to be honest, the real scale of the scandal is how much danger we're all in any time we're in public when the people who are literally responsible for our security are such low quality individuals.

Completely understandable, but we can't do anything about that bit - but the letter - Cannabis Industry Council and all the rest can.

Recently gave up my position working as a SIA door supervisor for nightclubs, pubs & events, this would be quite tricky If I encountered this situation not quite sure how I'd deal with it, think I would need to ask bar management or my own supervisor in the specific venue what they would like to do about it and go from there... This is definitely something that ISN'T part of the SIA training course and 100% should be not only for cannabis but other illegal drugs that are also available via prescription... In a normal case where someone is found with cannabis or rolling a joint etc its pretty straight forward, they are removed from the premises and banned for a certain time period (However I was quite lenient with this as I'm a user myself so I didn't ban anyone specifically for this) I would only bar the person If they made a nuisance of themselves. To make it clear I would not refuse/halt entry to a venue strictly for the smell of cannabis and I would only actually investigate If I were given reason to do so i.e Dealing or Rolling up within the venue. Much more likely to be refused due to being too drunk i.e from a previous venue etc rather than the smell of cannabis. Again almost every venue operates differently some are way more lenient than others.

Tbf pls be aware there is zero training about this, it definitely needs addressed! I'm assuming as MC is barely known they have no real need to introduce it as part of the SIA course but this is obviously changing as MC is a rapidly growing market (quite literally ) In other words the SIA security are just winging it as they haven't had any specific training for this.

There's a video going around on YT from a few month ago of two guys in Glasgow getting their med's taken off them by the police and they had to go to the station 11 days later to retrieve them with proof of their prescriptions, idk if it was a physical copy they required or whatever but yeah they can demand to see your prescription in order to get your med's back

I work as a Lighting Tech at a medium sized venue and I’ve seen a couple of people come to the front door with their medical cannabis and everything was fine, as long as you’re upfront about having it on your person with the door staff. Our SIA door staff just got the Duty Manager to chat with the person (I wasn’t part of the conversation so don’t know what they said) and it was all fine, they were let in to enjoy their night. But all our door staff are reasonable, nice people which helps. When I got my first prescription a few months ago I told my boss and she was completely fine with it. I just vape a 510 cartridge if I’m in the venue and sometimes some bud in the Mighty if I’m outside backstage. But I suspect if you don’t tell the door staff and they find it in a bag search that might raise some red flags and I’d imagine (certainly on a Club Night) that if you were caught vaping inside (without making them aware) you’d probably be marched to the front door. I know that you don’t have to really explain yourself to door staff or Duty Managers but I’d imagine that small courtesy would ensure you don’t have any problems later on.

I had a conversation like this at the Roundhouse the other week. They first wanted to lock my MC in their safe but I said no way, take it off my and it becomes an illegal drug!

In the end I had a nice vape with a security staff at the side of the stage mid-gig. It was great!

I’m off to Electric Brixton tonight but have my daughter so won’t be making a deal out of it. Just a cart in my pocket will be fine.
