I went to my local GP today regarding nerve damage. The doctor explained that there was not a lot he could do as I had tried all the medications and they were not working without side effects.
Then he asked me about my cannabis prescription and how was it. Which made me feel really awkward but I explained how much it helps me with my day to day life and pain management to which he said its working then.

I then asked him his views on cannabis as a medication and he said if it works and explained its a natural medication which is a lot better for you than to keep trying different things from the doctors drawer which is not good for you.
I then asked him if he could get me some oil on the NHS as it is very expensive and I feel that I qualify for this treatment.
The doctor said I should speak to my clinic about this and see what they can do as he is not specialised in prescribing cannabis and then asked me about my clinic and how it all works.
This has made me feel a lot better about taking medical cannabis knowing that I have the support of my local doctors as well as my clinic who have been really good as well

Lucky you! One of the doctors at my GP responded dismissively "oh, you need to be very careful with cannabis, it can make anxiety worse!"... as if that is not also true of every other anti-anxiety medication she regularly prescribes without such stark warnings. Not to mention all the added side effects like impotence and inability to feel joy or creativity. Lovely stuff.

I'm now just very glad that MC is self-referral and I was able to bypass these uninformed pill pushers entirely. But I am left with some anxiety about my GP taking an antagonistic view of my MC.

It's a shame when GPs aren't supportive.

At their core they are supposed to be your medically trained/experienced advocate, working for your best interests, who are looking for effective tools/methods to resolve, or manage, your medical issues - whatever form those tools take (exercise, diet, medication, specialist support like counselling or physiotherapy, surgery, etc)

I am very lucky that my GP is also supportive and conforms well to this statement, but, unfortunately, I guess they are people too and, despite some training to the contrary, are susceptible to societal programming (in this case taking against a certain type of medication, likely just based on hearsay)

Reassuring stuff and hopefully more become supportive and curious as they were at my wife's recent rheumatology appointment and I've had a mixed bag over the years but just told them with no shame it's the way it is ,it works . Thinking about it I haven't been to the doctors since becoming MC patient and very seldom have to go there thankfully but maybe it's time for a check up and just thinking it's possibly 8 years since my last appointment so probably haven't even met them yet.

Yeah this is my concern too. Have a history of high blood pressure, and worried I'll eventually come across a GP who blames my MC for it. Even though since starting MC my bp is down 20+ points and has helped me kickstart healthier lifestyle choices and my weight is down. And the last time I normalised my blood pressure was by dropping my weight significantly, and I did it all on (at the time illicit) cannabis. I've never once successfully lost weight or got bp under control while suffering the extremes of my anxiety/depression and not medicating to deal with them, however.

Luckily I have no history of this and they want to monitor it down the phone at a set time each day .Can't really understand why but you know.

Your GP is randomly ringing you up and asking for bp measurements with no related history?

That's very odd. It SOUNDS like your GP is being proactive and preventative, but that can't possibly be the case, because this is NHS UK 2025. I think you got a bp fetish caller impersonating your GP. That's so much more likely.
