I agree with you regards the cat piss smell I was smoking thai sticks in the late 80's and 90's but just remembered them discussing that it was a chemical process that creates actual ammonia and then explained what the terpenes etc where that created this.
I love looking into natures terpenes and volatiles , Mainly into enantiomers, stereochemistry, chirality mirror molecules which is so fkn interesting , going from nature back to the canna plant is immense,Pinene and Limonene very interesting relationship there . On top of that is thiols , mercaptans,esters,voc`s,vsc`s n i think all this relates to sulfur compounds, Breeding away from thiols n volatile sulfur compounds into terpenes i think we have lost alot a hell of alot. The piss seems to be in alot of old mexican which is in alot of genes. Myrcene seems to be present but deffo more volatile sulfur stuff that drives it. To me it smelt of burning tyres (my dad worked at a garage and they lit the bonfire each year using old tyres).
I hear the spliff seeds blueberry has a Sativa pheno that pops that is good for the burnt rubber scent profile.
