UK Reddit Post: I was arrested for possession of my medical cannabis, England

Original Link:

"Hi guys, so mine and a buddies place were raided on some separate charges (nothing drug related) and upon my arrested I asked the officers can I please take my medication before heading to the station, which they refused, upon asking me if I had any prescriptions I replied “yes cannabis “ and was laughed at by two officers. I was then taken and booked into the station at which point I was further arrested for possession of a class b substance ( Cannabis ). I made it clear this was a prescription ( it was still in its prescription pack ) and was ignored, upon being bailed I asked for my medication back and showed proof of prescription via the prescribing Dr and was refused my cannabis back, this happened on Friday 22nd of August and since I’ve been struggling to sleep and maintain my routine, please is there any action I can take as this is vital medication for my autism and ADHD and I do not have the money as a 19 year old to be buying it all the time for it to be taken!

Hi just a side note as this has gotten far more attention than I thought, this prescription is not just an excuse for me to smoke and I have tried numerous other pharmaceutical prescriptions and none have made any positive impact and have made my mental health worse over the years, cannabis is the only prescription I’ve had that makes me able to live a “normal” life, without it I struggle to bring myself to even get out of bed or get dressed or look after myself and my pets due to my autism and ADHD."

Don't know if this is allowed as it's an external link, but it is definitely relevant here! This is not me, but the clinic is mentioned in the thread comments by the OP.
Now, that make me anxious as f.
What do you all think?

Hi @Stefan

Welcome to MedBud!

My take on things like this is probably fairly common in that police need more awareness no doubt but we are so far down the priority list and in some cases rightly so. There are only ~100,000 of us up and down the country.

I know it's a medical thing that also leaks into an illegal recreational so it deserves more attention but there's more registered netball players in the UK.

I also think when people do things right, you won't be sure they've done anything at all. What I mean by that is there's plenty of police interactions you never hear about because they went how they should and there's nothing to talk about, you'll only ever hear about the negative minority.

I've been a patient a few years now, I've had 2-3 bad interactions and the rest had been rather positive to the point I can barely remember them.

Welcome to the community @Stefan and I personally have had no bad interactions as a patient but if this were to happen to me I would be furious but also in the knowledge I'm in the right and common sense will reign in the end but being without meds for days would be pretty traumatic in itself.

This is a good talking point and thanks for posting (y)

Thank you for the warm welcome @joint_account & @GrownHealth.
I had only one very unpleasant interaction with the police years ago, unfortunately it was in the UK. They were very aggressive with me and my friend (he was smoking on the street and got a fine, this was in 2015).
I just recently got my prescription and if something like this was to happen I would definitely be pissed off and try to take things further, at least get some training for the police force involved. While I understand the understaffing and lack of resources, training on how to deal with patients regardless of the prescribed medicine should be provided as basic.
