Hello,
I've been lurking for a while trying to get my head around what to ask for in my first prescription for anxiety.

I've not had much luck with Alternaleaf after a very brief and impersonal consultation so I'm switching to MC1. I'd like to be more prepared for the consultation with them. Would really appreciate any help with that...
I'm 52, have anxiety, menopause and am clashing with teen who has ADHD and I want to medicate my trauma and anxiety to manage her 'in yer face' high needs and our relationship better. I've had my best experiences of relief from anxiety and turning up the volume on creative approaches to problems with Charis and some legal edibles I was gifted a few years back but don't know the strain or strength of. I just know I did my best parenting on those edibles.
So far I've grabbed hold of the idea that green goliath or goliath x gelato might be best, it was suggested I start on an oil that was 20 THC:20cbt but that just felt like a generic newbie prescription as the guy didn't really want to talk to me on the call at all.
I'm on a learning curve around it all and was hoping that the consultation would be supportive rather then feeling like I would need to fight to be heard. I really hope I can gather what I need before the next one for a better outcome. I've recently been self medicating with home made chocs and edibles like brownies made from oil but again have no idea on the strain and strengths, some have been better than others. Do folks make home made oil to cook with from flower? That seems like an economical way to go that I'm drawn to but I realise is a long way round rather than just getting oil to take sublingual.
Thank you for reading.

Hello and welcome to the forum. The 20:20 oil is not a bad suggestion. If you are new to MC and your tolerance is very low you may be better with a T10:C10 oil. THC in high doses can induce anxiety so it's best to start low and controlled and work up from that to find an appropriate dose. I'm sure you'll find a regime that works for you

Welcome to the community @Otter

Thank you for sharing so much information about your circumstances and I'm sorry that your first experience with MC has been a bit shit with Alternaleaf.

A lot of members here treat ADHD, Anxiety and a whole host of other similar conditions, so you're definitely in the right place for strain advice. Everyone gels with things different so there is quite a lot of trial and error involved in the process. Even more reason to pick the brains of the regular posters around here.

Edibles are in a sticky situation right now. Curaleaf are recreating their range whilst the powers that be are simaltaniously trying to rid us of edibles for bogus child safety risks. They're not great value either. It would be far cheaper to buy cheap 10g bags of flower and make your own edibles.

As for the oils, your spidey senses were correct. Lots of doctors prefer them to flower from what I understand but many of us get offered oils to start with. It may just be because most patients are black market converts and may not have tried oils but alas, they are always offered. It's a rite of passage lol. The x in "goliath x gelato" means crossed. so you've got the goliath strain crossed with the gelato strain which formed the Circle - Mint oil blend you've been recommended.

Some doctors aren't great and they're not all the same but admittedly quite a few are pretty rubbish which is why I think so many of us rely on places like this for support and community.

Welcome once again and I hope you're finding the relief and support you're looking for.

Welcome to the community @Otter and I treat myself for anxiety too and can relate to a some of what you say and I try and use strains that are considered mild to medium to keep my anxiety in check rather than strong meds that sedate me heavily or make me hyper so more mild stimulation to help keep my mood/anxiety under control and also I find CBD in products really helps with making me more tolerant of stressful situations and helping to prevent disputes escalating in home life as they could if I was in an anxious state .
Let's hope you can find similar relief as you get accustomed to what serves you well medically 🙏

Hi, I've just updated that I've been self medicating lately so do have some tolerance, just not got much info on the strain or strength of what I've had

thanks so much for your response, I'm quite long in the tooth and suspicious of being funnelled but also can see that theres going to be some wastage involved with experimenting to find whats going to work best, 10g of flower as a minimum seems like a lot if I'm not vibing with it but I will need to lean into the process.

are you saying that doctors regularly will only prescribe oils rather than flower initially?

No problem, we're all here to help eachother the best we can.

I'll be honest, I'd be surprised if there's any patients that hasn't wasted plenty of cash to finding out what works. Plenty of us have shouted for smaller tester amounts for years but I don't think its ever going to happen unfortunately.

Having this place really does help, there's always someone who can tell you about something you're interested in trying and even if we can't be sure whether its the right strain for you, you can certainly be warned off poorly grown tat (again, very common in MC).

There's also loads of terpene information and strain lineage information that can be helpful. if you know you really liked Girl Scout Cookies then trying Wedding Cake would be a good move as GSC is a parent strain of Wedding Cake.

Or with terpenes, if you notice that GSC works really well. then you can find strains also dominant in the same terpenes (in this case Caryophyllene, Myrcene and Limonene). And head over to MedBud.wiki/formulary/ and search for strains with those terpenes it will show you which other strains are similar. It does get murky doing things this way as different terpenes interact differently with one another do can produce different effects.

Checking out strain lineage and coming and chatting to the community is how I personally do things but everyone is different after all.

It takes a while, I think it probably takes a good 6 months to fully feel like you know what you're doing, bit annoying but when you get there it's great.

Hello Otter and welcome to the community! I am currently using oil and i think i have just about got it sorted out. I am now trying a Curaleaf oil, with THC20: CBD40 which for my issues seem to be working, or at least starting to work. I think with the oil, it can be difficult as it seems a massive waste of money if it is not working, but you need to build it up to see a difference. I am also vaping flower, but with less THC than some people use. Best of luck with finding something to counteract a teenager with ADHD - not an easy task.

Welcome @Otter

I am new to this forum and to Canna Cardiff Clinic. I am using for pain and lots of mental health stuff, mostly PTSD.

I can offer hand holding and just general support. My user name fits me... 🐻

Welcome! I have read your post right through and considered that a good, budget anxiety choice just now would be GSR OG Kush Breath. It has kept me level throughout January in the Steppes. I'm pretty sure it would help with coping with people getting hyper. (y)

Thank you, I'm with Medicann and they don't have it on their menu. I've been looking at Grow® Kings Kush after trying Kush in the Netherlands and finding it really calming, I've had Oxicann kush too, which I mixed with Blue Dream and find that calming. I'm glad to hear you got through January with the Kush; it was a brutal month where I am in the southwest, with endless rain. Medicine really helped me, too.
