Hello, I’m 42, been using cannabis for over 20 years. Was baking hash cakes back in the 90’s, made canna butter, coconut extracts and iso extracts in the past. I figured if I’m going edible, oil and vape legal was the way forward…

I was hoping to use cartridges, they are listed as for sale by Curaleaf, they are on MedBud and on their website. One of the main reasons I chose curaleaf. I’ve used BM ones in the past and they work amazingly, very discreet, not to high dose in one go, all a big plus for my mental health.

Curaleaf just said during the consultation they’re not doing carts so won’t be on my script, so that’s down side 1, I didn’t want to carry a load of weed when I’m visiting mum in the dementia ward, or sat waiting for a train, I’d much rather a less smelly vape cart I can use discreetly - I also don’t fancy pulling out a syringe of oil and having a dose in a coffee shop or out in the street or on the train. I enjoy mountain walking so I don’t really want to be carrying syringes, I’d rather have a vape looking over the views…

Next comes the pastilles, even more confusing, a pack of 28x 10mg are £68.60 that’s 280mg, there’s 150mg in 1g of weed so you’d be paying £68.60 for less than 2g of equivalent in flower 2g = 300mg and I’ve seen flower at £8 per g, so it would be considerably cheaper just to buy the flower and vape it?

If my maths are correct it would be stupid to buy anything but flower if the carts aren’t on offer..

Does anyone know of a clinic that still prescribes vape carts?

Much appreciated. Love to all

Welcome @AndyH82 and your at the right place to get advice and be shown options that are available to you .
What you describe must have been frustrating ,joining the clinic for their cartridges to be told you can't have them ,rest assured most clinics I've looked at give cartridges as an option .So it's not like your asking for anything unusual .

Your maths surrounding Pastilles and flower looks sound and that's basing it on the flower being 15%THC if it was 25% the pastilles look even worse value .
I would say most clinics supply vape carts and I'm pretty shocked to find yours doesn't.
If you want advice on clinics and prices and such and transferring we'll be glad to help .I'm currently transferring clinic myself and my wife has recently Joined CB1 Medical where transferring clinics is free and easy as a few on here have done ,that's the cheapest and they do prescribe carts where suited .

I'll put another post up with a list of clinics in a moment (y)

I know Alternaleaf do for sure but I assume there are others. Edited to add: Alternaleaf's own pharmacy stock Vida, Curaleaf and Upstate vape carts ;)

Hello @AndyH82 Firstly, welcome, and thank you for joining us here. It’s a good vibe here, I hope that you hang around to find out for yourself.

I’ve just started my MC journey after nearly 5 Decades of BMW, My experiments led me to start using a Mighty+ (other medication inhalation vapes are available) with dosing capsules, mainly because I don’t have an extension cable long enough to use my Volcano out and about.

I like being able to put however much MC that suits me in the caps, yes they can be a pain, but for me it’s worth it if I can get suitably medicated. I am aware that I sound like a S+B rep😎

Peace oot

I would say all will do vape carts of the mainstream clinics and certain factors come in to play like are you willing to pay to transfer and what do you want from a clinic like more personal service like Cannabis Clinic Cardiff or a more larger company like Integro Mamedica® or Alternaleaf to name a few , on the clinics page you'll see the fees involved with each and which are basically free when transferring but some have other charges monthly or for each consultation in the future
https://forums.medbud.wiki/threads/cb1-medical.310/ these threads shows patients who have transferred clinics recently to CB1 Medical

@AndyH82 This is how a lot of us use MC when out and about myself included . (y)

Cheers for the response! Settled my mind a lot. Thank you

Thanks everyone for the response! I can check again with the clinic and if needed I know there’s 2 other clinics ( Alternaleaf and mamaedica) I could transfer too. For the right medication I’ll happily pay the fees.

I know my average dose (throughout the day) is between 50mg - 90mg (depending on how much goes into the vape) so I’d have to eat 8 x 10mg pastilles for every 1 joint… what’s worse is I can get gummies online 500mg THC for £35, almost double the dose for almost half the price.

Clinics definitely need to look into their edible and oil prices, there’s no way 2g flower that’s worth £16 turned into 28 pastilles now costing £68. I don’t know a single human who could make 28 joints from 2g (it’s 4or 5 j’s per g)

I would add to the list of clinics CB1Medical as you wouldn't have to pay anything for the first year fees/consultancy wise and would have no problems with carts there and you would not need to supply your summary care record as they can access it with your permission.

Also Cannabis Clinic Cardiff depending on what your prescribed for because if your willing to pay to transfer this Clinic has access to all pharmacies and Medications available to us and all discounts where as a lot of other clinics only use certain brands which can be frustrating after a while.

Have you considered the sublingual oils ,they are much better value in terms of price/mg .this could be a possibility ,my wife uses these and I'm about to try them again soon .

Also bear in mind 90mg THC through oil or pastilles is totally different and a lot stronger to 90mg THC through a vape because a vape or smoking is a lot less efficeint I'd say .

Just looking back to your original post maybe Curaleaf won't prescribe a cart as your a new patient?

It just doesn't make sense as you'd think they'd be all for them as they produce them .

I wonder if any other members have been prescribed Vape Carts at curaleaf?

Hello. I’ve been making my own oils and edibles for years, my cakes are made 7g for 12 cakes 7g=1050mg THC = 87.5mg THC per cake. Eat 1 cake to relax/anti anxiety (87.5mg) , eat 2 cakes when having a panic attack/manic, eat 3 or 4 cakes before bed for a peaceful nights rest.

Oil rates are the same it’s £195 for 30ml@100mg/1ml = 3000mg. There’s 3000mg in 20g flower and 20gs @£8per g= £160, so there’s still a £35 extra for equivalent flower, considering this is industrial and the clinics want people to choose the oils edibles they need to make it much much cheaper.

One question remains in my mind, we are allowed to purchase flower not to smoke because it’s bad for our health, I completely agree with that statement, surely it would be far far healthier for me to bake cakes? Cheaper and healthier, or is it the sugar and fats and chocolate chips that would make it unhealthy?

I'm certain this is what a lot of patients do as in bake and make edibles and quite frankly a lot smoke their meds as this is the most effective way for them to use it and from one patient to another I would say if it's not broke don't try to fix it and do what has worked for you in the past , it literally took me a year of smoking my meds to convert to vaping full time ,whilst others struggle much longer .

Your remarks on the price/mg compared to flower are a topical point at the moment as we are hoping to see prices come down for oils and vape carts and also hoping to see all Cannabis Based Prescription Medicines standardised to show how many mg THC and CBD is in the product so its easier for patients to see the massive differences in value like this one below.

I was going to use Mamedica® but it didn’t list them doing 510 cartridges, my friends with Curaleaf and when he showed me the carts were on sale (still are?) . I’ve seen these newly labelled packs on a few videos on YouTube and love the idea. 👍

Mamedica definitely stock them I've had them from there recently and I'm currently transferring from there so am probably not the best person to ask for about Mamedica at the moment :ROFLMAO:
Listening to what you have have said if Curaleaf actually refuse to prescribe you the carts( really hope there's been a mix up.) I'd transfer to CB1 Medical as they seem to have a certain amount of freedom about your selections once they know you ,also they have a certain flexability around prescribing that I didn't feel I had at Mamedica .

Hello welcome! Sorry to here you couldn't get the carts must be frustrating if you know what you wanted. I'm with Curaleaf and new too and I didn't really get a choice of products on my first script perhaps on your next appointment you will have better luck. Like others have said it could be worth you transferring.

The value of Flower vs other products is he'll of confusing to me like I say I'm new. But I had thought the same that it'd be cheaper to just get flower than Oils or Carts that are more convenient.

I just bought the Xmax v3 pro Vaporizer it's one of the cheaper ones. £80 ish and it's discreet to carry around looks like a normal vape device to others. My thinking was this would be cheaper than Carts but still convenient and discreet.

Curaleaf just said during the consultation they’re not doing carts so won’t be on my script
I'm not sure why Curaleaf are claiming they don't do carts, can only assume it's something specific to your case or because you're a new patient.

I'd say it's worth calling and trying to check if this is a blanket policy, or if they'll be considered on future scripts.

As others have said, you'll almost certainly have lesser issues with access at other clinics.

Hello 👋 I’ve already got a dry herb vape, which is okay when outdoors, but stood outside my parents stinking of white widow or at the nursing home to see mum with dementia, at the train station or at the bus stop, the dry herb vape just isn’t discreet enough. The carts can be used at all these places without any heavy smells or reloading over and over with pre ground weed, one or two pulls on a cart is the same as a full dry herb dose, that’s how it felt for me- I had an opportunity to try the carts a few months ago and they were the perfect swap from joint to vape cart.

I had an opportunity to try the carts a few months ago and they were the perfect swap from joint to vape cart.
I had the opportunity to try one recently too, and was actually quite impressed. The Upstate pens literally look like metal pens - there's a hole in the lid/cap you can use discreetly toke without even taking the lid off.

If it wasn't for the pricing versus flower, I'd add them to my own script. I'd need to see £20-30 a cart first though 👀

Oh and thankyou for the bit of math big help to me confirming price of Flower is most value for money.
Recently added this explanation text on the top of our main vape cart table, should help too:
  • We recommend looking at cost per active milligram (MG) as the best way to evaluate value for money.
  • Comparing only cannabinoids, a 400mg cart is equivalent to around 2g of 20% flower, or 1.33g at 30%. An 800mg 1g cart is equivalent to 4g at 20%, 3.33g at 24% or 2.66g at 30%.
  • Generally 10g of higher THC flower is equivalent to roughly 3-4 1g carts, or 5-8 0.5g carts. Exact cannabinoid amounts should be compared for accurate dosing.
  • For unknown reasoning, some clinics have a policy to treat each cart as 10g less flower able to be prescribed, as a blanket policy.

I'd need to see £20-30 a cart first though 👀
That'd do it and at the same time make others who are curious to try them out take the plunge and could be a great success but I larger selection of full spectrum carts would be welcome too, Like with the BCM Oils but cheaper.
