Do people always take the "wrong" type of drugs for their personality?

Something thats come up few times in my life was the idea that most people seem to potentially take the "wrong" drugs for their personality types...
Is it a trusim that quiet and sensitive people use cannabis so that makes them more quiet, sensitive?
Or that loud obnoxious peeps use cocaine to become more loud and obnoxious? I realise this is oversimplifying, but I'm curious for peeps thoughts.
