Branching Up
Hey folks, just sharing a snapshot of where I’m at after a recent fibromyalgia diagnosis, starting gabapentin, and still relying heavily on medical cannabis.
Night 1:
100mg gabapentin.
Result? An extra hour of sleep (total: 4hrs—woohoo, right?) but no pain relief whatsoever. My vape got just as much love as usual, and my body was still throwing its usual tantrum. Naturally, I looked into it (because I don’t just take pills and hope) and found most people don’t feel anything until around the 3-week mark. Great.
Night 2:
Still just 100mg. I managed 5 hours in one go (unheard of), was awake for 2 hours, then grabbed another 2-hour session. For me, that’s basically a miracle.
Sleep: 7 hours total, which is fab, but… still no pain relief.
Tonight is my last night at 100mg before I’m allowed to increase the dose—so I’m cautiously hopeful, but not holding my breath. At this rate, with 100mg increments, it feels like it’ll take months to find out if it actually does anything useful.
Meanwhile, today’s a Doce de Casa day, because nothing’s hit quite right yet. I’m knackered, foggy, and it feels like I’m banging my head against a medical brick wall.
Also worth mentioning...
I’m not totally sold on the fibro diagnosis. Yes, there’s pain—but I’ve had huge gastrointestinal issues, and with a family history of vagus nerve dysregulation (cheers, Dad), I suspect there’s a bigger puzzle here.
I’ve got a gastroenterology appointment this Wednesday, 9th April 2025, and now that they’re aware of the vagus nerve angle, I’m hoping it might finally start shedding some light on the matter.
Throw untreated complex PTSD into the mix, and it’s no wonder my body is finally yelling for help.
I’ve just switched to a new GP who’s supposed to be more proactive. I’m waiting (not-so-patiently) for rheumatology referrals and honestly hoping for someone to properly join the dots.
Until then?
I vape, I research, I survive.
Just trying to make it through each day with what little fuel I’ve got left.
