Still Deciding
Hi all,

New here,

I have suffered from Diverticular disease now for 4 years. This has hospitalised me on several occasions as it turned into diverticulitis. One occasion was a ruptured bowl because of the polyps.
Is this a ailment that is covered for Medical Cannabis as I've not seen it listed directly.

cheers.

I've never seen it listed specifically either, but if the disease results in chronic pain, then it may be covered under that:

For example, Curaleaf says the following: https://curaleafclinic.com/conditions/chronic-pain/

"Whether there is an underlying cause for your chronic pain or not, there are many options to improve what you can do and how you feel."

Welcome @Weeyin1980 and sorry to hear of your struggles.

With Medical Cannabis it tends to be the symptoms that get treated like say pain ,anxiety ,insomnia and so on so I would say the chances are you would qualify through pain treatment possibly as long as you have tried 2 previous treatments ie. painkillers in this example .
I would certainly suggest you apply and see where you stand and this often leads to a successful application and doesn't carry a fee if you are refused and they would tell you what needed to be done to access MC in a future application but lets hope it doesn't come to that .

Hi, I'm too are new here. From experience, I can confirm that complicated diverticular disease (it's complicated as you perforated) is 100% covered under pain, so long as it is shown on your summary care record.

As you know pain treatment options are limited for diverticular disease, and if you have the type they call smouldering diverticular disease, then you've always have pain. NICE guidelines say only paracetamol due to complications, which is not sufficient when you have a chronic condition that can cause unbelievable levels of pain and distress.

I've been using cannabis for years to treat complicated DV, it's the only medication that improved things, it has significantly helped with appetite problems and lowered a lot of the stress associated with having a potentially fatal illness.

You also need also need to pay attention to your stress levels, diet and general health too. Diverticular disease is not curable, all you can do is work at it and try and stop it progressing further.

Good luck with everything.
