Hey everyone,
I am new to the community and looking forward to chatting about virtually everything. I am 39 and a neuroscientist who also has a masters in neuropharmacology, I come from Scotland and hopefully I can offer a little in any conversation. I can offer advice if anyone requires It but I am also here to find a place where I can talk freely and form new friendships in a place of my own.
I can relate to many here so I will let you know about my background. I first started smoking cannabis at 13 for recreational purposes and it’s something I did for the rest of my life.
I have a genetic disorder which is destroying my lungs, I found this out only when I started having pneumothorax’s and I had 3 in a couple of months with my last becoming a tension pneumothorax that almost killed me. I required surgery to remove parts of my lungs and reattach my lung back to the chest wall using a technique called pleurodesis it is brutal and they caused extensive nerve damage, I now have my chest burn exactly where my heart is along with pain that can often feel like a heart attack, I have been left with allodynia across large parts of my chest, my wife can’t even trace her fingers across my chest because of it generating horrible sensation that I cannot bear. I also lost movement in my arm upwards thanks to electric shock feeling and I drop things.
That took me years to accept and it destroyed my life, I was on morphine, pregabalin and tramadol and still am but I am desperate to stop and improve quality of life because I am tired of side effects.
I understand peoples pain better than most but knowledge is not always kind. Cannabis was a pastime that became healing, I loved hanging out with my dog just having a smoke and sitting on the same wall for 10 years, he could reach me when no one else could, he knew when I was in pain and I would lie on his side and feel peace, dogs are incredible painkillers and cannabis was something I could rely on for lots of things, those days spent on a wall were some of the greatest times of my life.
I have a wide understanding of medical conditions and how cannabis might support their needs.
I am still an unlawful user because I am aware of the difficulty and cost involved in using cannabis that is prescribed however I am open to learning from people here about how their journey has led to a more lawful source. I have just unboxed my first vape so I’m a noob, dry vaping is pretty rare here still.
Sorry for the monologue but thought I’d share because I suspect there may be some others with lung problems here too.
I don’t just understand medical conditions I feel them.
I have excellent understanding of pain and can hopefully help others understand it too
Movement disorders
Neurodegenerative Disease
Neuropathic pain
Severe mental health problems and how cannabis interacts upon it
And if you’re high we can even tackle consciousness and psychedelics. I have a colleague currently running a trial using psilocybin in PTSD to great success.
I’d like to learn a lot about vaping and its successes and failures. The road to uk prescription is something I’d consider so user experience would be great.
