Just a bit silliness while everyone comes up with ideasCan we stay away from gendered terms, and weird Anglo-centric bro nonsense?
How many levels do you need?I'm still fully setting up the forums and part of that is the automated ranks given to members based on their post count. In the future we may limit some newer accounts permissions until more established on the forum - for example disallowing messaging other members until the account is older than a week, or has 10+ posts or whatever else.
The fun part of all this is deciding on a rank ladder and what the titles should be, so far we just have the following as a placeholder:
We probably should build the system so the top rank requires at least 1,000+ posts, and probably have 5+ ranks overall.
- New Member - default
- Member - 5+ posts
- Senior Member - 25+ posts
Feel free to chime in with suggestions.
like the default three, or seed, sprout, plant, etc. or better ideas). And then subrank in their wording e.g. with "Senior". It doubles the number of levels and might simplify choice and meaning
AgreeCan we stay away from gendered terms
I don't think that was any anyone's intention above, people are just correlating the idea of ranks with more militarist terms and having funand weird Anglo-centric bro nonsense?
Works pretty well, but I think we're going to have about a 12-15 character limit to fit each rank properly on one line. We'll have to do some testing shortly.Light changes -
Getting ready to flip?
The more the merrier really, I'd say about 7 minimum, maybe 15 max.How many levels do you need?
Acknowledge your point here for sure, I did suggest earlier in the thread that each rank gets some icon next to it as a visual indicator of what's higher/lower. The best way to do this is probably with numbers as opposed to trying to draw tiny icons for every rank:The real problem is how to have clear seniority that's obvious from new naming. If it gets difficult to decide, maybe two to three obviously distinct hierarchical terms (like the default three, or seed, sprout, plant, etc. or better ideas).
This works using 'Junior and Senior' or something similar, though I'm not sure we're going to need so many overall. And then subrank in their wording e.g. with "Senior". It doubles the number of levels and might simplify choice and meaning

Yes absolutely it is.Fleshed this out a little further, the plan so far:
I Fresh Seed No Posts Default State for Accounts I Stale Seed No Posts No Post for a Month After Registration II Germinated 1 III Sprout 10 IV Seedling 25 V Branching Up 50 VI Branching Out 100 VII Filling Out 250 VIII Budding 500 IX Flowering 750 X Pollinating 1000 XI Seeding 2000 XII Mother Plant* 5000
Special Ranks:
I'm also thinking we may not need the numbers in the titles after all, from testing it looks a little messy - and I think most will realise quickly it results to the plant cycle.
- Top Kola - those whom have previously donated.
- Verified Clinic/Phamacy/Producer/Specialist/Pharmacist etc.
- Patient YouTuber
The ranks are now live, feel free to make any final suggestions for changes.
*@BlackSheepVegan, I think using the term 'mother plant' while gendered is acceptable? Any thoughts?
