Can i make a suggestion that we have a section where we share tips on how we moderate our consumption?
It's human nature to overindulge sometimes, but there, will always be members looking to cut their use at times.
I think this would be a interesting and healthy addition to the site.
I recently found I can seriously moderate my consumption by vaping less bud!
Jokes aside, I like to use one form of the 50% rule (likely not an option if you're a pain patient).
Either load up my capsules with 50% of the bud, OR
Every other time I'd toke, I say nah, next time.
Also, I like to measure out the daily dose the previous night. I can keep the doses much more under control, if I am not doing the "fill 2-3 capsules, oh no we need more, grind, fill repeat" cycle, and instead I clearly know and schedule where I am with the daily doses.

Dosing capsules really do help with keeping impulse under control.
I've recently brought a loading tool which fills 8 caps at a time. If you weigh 1.2 grams out each time, each cap ends up being a accurate 0 .15, you wouldn't think it makes a lot of difference but if you load with bleary eyes you can easily force 0.2 in a cap. This Method cut my consumption by around 30%.
My life changing discoveries when I started medical was purchasing some digital scales and a mighty plus with dosing capsules. I was initially very sceptical that 0.15g would deliver any effect but it’s the perfect dose.
In 4 decades of using BM I never weighed out how much i was using but it was at least 2g per day when I was vaping it using a pax3 with a big enough oven for .4g at a time. The last time I combusted flower was in Thailand last year as they don’t allow vapes and I was smoking approx 3g per day.
According to my calculations I have consumed on average 1.3g per day since I started medical last Sep. I’m aiming for the minimum effective medical dose to manage my pain symptoms so some days it’s higher and some days it’s lower. I’m prescribed 2g per day so that’s what I’ve been buying and now have a small surplus in my personal dispensary. I’m using less flower and spending less £ per month than I was on BM.
I can't lie, I'm a creature of habit and schedules so for me moderation doesn't come in using less flower but it comes in using weaker flower and the occasional CBD mix.
All of my current flowers are 28% or below. They're the sleep flowers then in the day I have a combination of 20%-24%. Ideally lower that that as well.
In December my weakest flower was 27% and I was starting my day on 34%.
So that's my 2 cents. If you're someone who's struggling with consuming less and you struggle with the idea of not using when you normally do them I'd really recommend dropping to <20% flower for as long as possible.
I know it's not a standard answer on moderation but it seems to work for me.

Great advice, perhaps another way to reduce a weighed dose could be to add some CBD flower to bring the effective THC down.
This is something I've been considering lately, as i too am a creature of habit and i actually quite enjoy the taste of a vape, so pavlov's dog tends to visit often.

Yep, that mirrors my experience exactly MC Overgrow. I seem to have settled on 8 caps a day with one left spare for the 3 A.M wake ups!
I didn't think i would end up being this "geeky" with weed but having to answer to a doctor has made me want to have my facts straight!

That's a very interesting point GreenRed. I find with some strains I am checking the clock after no time at all!
Have you ever found a pattern to the longevity of particular strains?

Random. About 20% of strains don't really work for me, 60% are kind of working but meh, and 20% work for me very well. I never really know in advance, as a general rule I try to keep the Myrcene content low but even with "perfect" terp wheels I had underwhelming bud. Plus we all know how 2 batches from the strain can be so different.
I keep going back to the BNM Pink Gasoline, that very consistently tastes good, you might say unique as it's not as hempy but more floral, and medicates me for hours. Already dreading the day it will run out lol

This has been my experience too, it's frustrating because there seems to be no real way to know what attributes contribute to the endurance of effects.
I noticed you mention BNM, I've recently picked up a few of their bits and have been impressed. I'm starting to think all the post harvesting is having a huge effect on the usefulness of product . I also feel this could explain why we see so much variation between batches.
It has been a while since I've been but I remember dutch coffeshop weed flooring me for hours. My consumption methods havent changed. Why is medical so different?
Has anyone much experience with sublingual oils on prescription? Edibles are reported to last much longer, I wonder if the same applies to oils?
Edibles indeed last longer to me and are very "pure" but hard to control when to kick in, and how much. Really depends on the day, what you eat, etc. But I used 2-3 rounds of baked goods for years and my consumption was indeed lower than when vaping. But vape wise, I feel more in control and more consistently medicated through they day.
I guess ultimately the two should be combined, so I am trying to use AVB chocolate, and bridge the gaps with vapes.
Oil just did not work for me. Milligramm wise I have used many times what I'd vape or bake&eat and it never really worked. I have tried like 20 different ways of administering during my career and oil is the only one that did not really work. Other people swear by it.
Thanks so much for the feedback GrenRed, It is cooking with AVB which has made me consider edibles.
On the days i eat my "green" brownies i find myself reaching for the vape much less even though i don't actually feel that medicated from them.
I get what your saying about control though, there is no going back with ediables to big doses do require some admin to be done first.
Random question, If you could freeze the point in the day you where you got the dose just right, would you be happy to feel that way 24/7?

I just don't do it. If I need a break, I take a break.
If you use it for chronic pain that is beyond the scope of modern painkillers, I have no clue how you take a break. Might suit for those people. But for a lot of people who take for anxiety or sleep issues, I think taking a day off is not the end of the world and if done on a day where you won't have much anxiety, the fallout would probably be a lot less.
I personally find overconsumption in the short term means you end up having a mental overload and in the long term generates a tolerance. The first will force a break and the second just means an ever growing need for more flower.
Yes. I did it for about four years, so 24/7/365/4.
I was taking what some might consider a lot towards the end, but started out making half a kg of fudge and would eat a piece every day. By the end I could eat the entire half kg in one night without ill effect. I stopped because I was going abroad for a month, to a place where it wasn't possible to consume. What i discovered was I was still high as a kite for the entire time I was there and for the next nine months after it. I think to reach baseline (if it's even possible after doing that) it took maybe two years and even then you can expect occasional OEV/CEV's as your body releases fat containing THC. You are basically storing up THC when you do this in any body fat you accrue, or at least it feels that way.
Mentally you need to be fairly strong as you are almost abusing your mind doing this. But once you've done it, you are never quite the same again and it gets a lot easier. The problem is finding the happy place for dosage. There will be a lot of hard experiences where you take too much and suffer a little. The key thing is to immediately take another dose at the same time the next day, but maybe not as much.
I'm not recommending you do this, but saying it can be done. I am a bit of an enigma in some ways. I started out exploring my inner mind about 26 years back, with consumption of various things. I am fairly happy dealing with stuff when it goes wrong. i would say cannabis can occasionally go wrong worse than other things. So bear that in mind if you go down the edibles route. Once you eat it, you are committed and it's going to last for a while, so if you eat too much, you are committing to maybe 6-9 hours of feeling really bad and doing something very mentally taxing. Having benzos on hand is wise if you are going to play with the heroic doses end of consumption.
If you want to do it in a safer manner. Start with say one small square of brownie/fudge/flapjack/etc. Do that for a week or two, then go to 1.25 for a week, then 1.5 for a week, then 1.75 for a week and so forth.
The most extreme protocol I know is the Simpsons Oil protocol. You start at head of a pin and by the end of the second week you are at pea size and then you continue until you are doing a syringe worth per week. Full spectrum oil as well. It does wreck you, but there is only one time I know of where you run that protocol. Unless you have untreatable, terminal cancer, it's not a thing. Extreme measures for extreme problems.
