Clinic
Still Deciding
Good Morning All!

I am just hoping for a little bit of help.

I have some history on my medical records with anxiety, assessments with the GP & Mental Health Reviews with the mental health nurse at my GP clinic. I was prescribed sertraline and took this for over a year. They also said I could have propanol but I chose not to go ahead with this. A private clinic also gave me a prescription for this which again I decided against.

I have checked my NHS records, and they have not officially diagnosed anxiety under health conditions - instead when you click on my health conditions a “mental health review” is registered, and looking into my notes they put “IMP: Anxiety and low mood” on the notes rather than officially diagnosing? I have been reading up on this, and apparently it is really rare for a GP to actually diagnose anxiety disorder and just treat the symptoms.

I have signed up with Medicann & I am about to share my medical records but just wanted an opinion on where I actually stand with this and whether I should push further with the GP for an official diagnosis before my consultation? It’s a really tricky thing as it is all within my notes and records, but only states mental health review on my health conditions.

Thank you so much for your help and insight in advance!

Xxx

Welcome @Tewilksxo and your record sounds similar to my own with anxiety and low mood in my notes and I'm sure you'll be fine as this is bolstered by being subscribed sertraline and being offered another treatment but the two treatments is not set in stone and in fact at Medicann they have a case-by-case prescribing model with no firm rules on two previous licensed medication failures while fully aligned with GMC guidance. So with this in mind you'd have to be hopeful that you satisfy the criteria for MC with the clinic .

They will also guide you if there is anything amiss but it does look like you'll be fine 🤞

Thank you so much. It’s really a bit worrying they haven’t diagnosed it but fingers crossed. I am giving them access to my records now 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Welcome, I think you will be ok with them, hoping so for you

If not don't be put off and do try other clinics as each will make their own decision and if one says no another may well agree
Thank you so much. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

You got the mrs over to medicann yet mate?

They couldn't handle her mate 🤣
hahaha fair enough, I thought i'd left CB1 Medical when I got my discharge letter like 4-5 months ago then it let me sign in other day... had to request another discharge before it actually took me off the system so technically i've been with them up to now aswell 🫣 :ROFLMAO:

Just an update, I shared my medical Records via Orb Connect & my enquiry has been accepted, and my initial consultation with the doctor is booked for next Friday. Fingers crossed! 🤞🤞
Brilliant news and the rest will hopefully be a formality now and many of us had similar anxieties when first applying so good to see it's all sorted now🙏

Me again - I’ve booked a GP telephone appointment tomorrow with the mental health consultant to bolster up some further notes about my anxiety on my record, as the last notes are from a year ago. Will this go against me since it’s so close to the MC appointment? Sorry guys really worrying over this. Thank you & hope you had a lovely weekend!

I think by having an appointment booked with the clinic now would suggest you are passed the Medical Records stage as they don't usually waste Dr's appointments lightly and whilst it will do you no harm to see you GP but I'm pretty sure you are past the Medical Records stage as they would of already assessed them but also I can totally understand the anxiety as the time approaches as you just want to cover all bases 🤞

I really appreciate this response, thank you so much. Will let you know how it goes on Friday🤞🤞🤞

Its quite normal, since the kind of folks like us who are seeking this help tend to get anxious when things aren't super clear, there are a lot of unknowns, etc so totally understand.

I would add the reassurance that the usual approach of all clinics is to not let you get as far as the doctors appointment if they don't think there's a high chance (sorry for the pun) that they'll take on the person as a patient.

I know it's hard, it was hard for me in the run up too, but getting to this stage is a positive sign so fingers crossed you are nearly there 👍

Thank you soooo so much. I’m so glad I found this website & forum. I appreciate all of your help

Also is there actually a formalised diagnosis for anxiety that could be added by a GP. I know I didn't get one on my records until after I had my ASD assessment, but my records were littered with all manner of drugs that could be used for it, so it was pretty obvious.

You know what I’m not actually sure… from doing some research it appears GPs won’t officially diagnose anxiety/depression and will just treat the symptoms!!

None of the doctors I saw over the years ever put it down on my records. Depression, yes. Anxiety, no. But as soon as i'd had my ASD assessment I noticed in my records there were mentions of "generalised anxiety" and "social anxiety disorder". But I suppose if you go for a specialist assessment, then it's someone with a higher pay grade and a specialised set of skills.

FTR, the treatment for anxiety truly does suck if you get benzos. Don't take a lot of them and use them sparingly. The withdrawal is horrible if you do form a habit. I never did, but had a friend who came off after several years and it wasn't good and culminated in him spending several weeks in hospital. My GP gave me Diazepam, but I only used it once in a while. i absolutely hate the stuff. After I got my script from Integro I disposed of them all.

Should be fine, it will be like a pre-screening, get the paperwork done, go over the ins and outs. Then a week or so later you have an appointment with someone who can write scrips and then, all being well, you get one and are medicated a couple of days later. :)

Who did you go with?
