You're right that it is out-of-place, and I perpetuated it just by engaging too, bluntly. In general there's been quite a few comments over the past month or two about keeping threads on-topic, and not letting things detract into random banter.

The way it needs to be looked at is that many viewers that aren't registered, are trying to find medication information, and don't want to read irrelevant chat.

Generally, I don't mind the idea of a general world geopolitics thread, as in discussing what's happening across the world – but what we really don't want on the forum whatsoever is UK political debates outside of cannabis - as I can see it as simply being too divisive, and causing arguments, with how the UK is right now.

To summarise my thoughts:
  • We should become stricter on moderating threads on specific topics, to make sure they don't go awry and become irrelevant.
  • We should make sure there are dedicated threads for general chatter/discussion - but perhaps avoid certain topics.
  • Allowing (for example) members to openly debate policies from UK parties outside of cannabis is probably best-off left to elsewhere, because last thing we want is debates on immigration, deportations etc. MedBud must maintain a politically agnostic and all-inclusive community.
The irony of making all these points in this thread isn't lost on me 😁 Either way, feedback appreciated.

I should have known better however I woke up and along with a heavy chest infection, this was really on my mind.
I have already in my own way tried to keep threads clear of anything verging on the controversial, as I know that even the simplest of things can set me off and current real world events are playing with fire.
I would love to sit have a smoke with you all and discuss whatever ailed the world and your souls, but this just aint the place. I would strongly advise against adding any topics other than you have for discussion and to keep some clear rules around these things.
You already have actors in bots messing the place up with spam. If you introduce more volatile subject matter, this place will be overrun by people acting in bad faith.
You can see the pressures government put on websites for UK political free speech and the added scrutiny that entails.
I think you have enough on your plate championing the cause of medical cannabis.

I like the idea of a geo political thread in the members section. I doubt it'll see much activity but it does create a space to discuss any large scale events.

I agree on UK politics and all domestic politics as well really. I can see a U.S. political discussion being equally as aggressive as a UK one.

Can we qualify what off topic discussions would be?

E.g. if a poster says they're enjoying some Mango K whilst having a day out bike riding, snaps a picture of the bike along with the post. - is that comment considered off topic?

Or would it only be off topic if it mentioned the bike riding?

In the case of this thread maybe if should be called "What are you consuming and what are you doing today?" If people like it's current vibe.

I don't think you need to put this on you mate. Ultimately it's a growing platform and we're all learning about what does and doesn't work in real time.

Its quite a big talking point in the world and with the way this thread is used it would make sense to get reactions from people and see what the feeling is.

Having the best of both worlds with a geo-political thread along with the many threads from general life chat to the paranormal thread without clogging up the medical threads is a great place to land imo.

I think it takes boundary pushing to see progression. Even if it is just harmless chatter.

I think little loops of random banter on a thread are fine.

This thread they seem to loop back naturally to the main trunk of the topic in a way that moderation would seem heavy handed, and I think it's natural for people to give context to where they are what they are doing experiencing etc whilst consuming.

And on the other hand I think it's hard for users to separate, say come here and give the consuming info, and then jump to another thread to do the chating about one part of what they want to talk about and then another for another, just doesn't flow.

This thread is in the off-topic category too I believe, so other than spiking out into a touchy subject as happened this morning I think it's been fine for the little banter loops.

We have flower threads where a member puts poems on its not on topic but it's wonderful - I'm fine with a bit of rambling to a degree and it seems most members are too given the way we've been engaging. I think it's part of the charm.

I think I said it rather bluntly recently when the General Life Chat thread petered out again - bringing order to organic things sometimes can kill them, and I'm not sure what the benefit of general order is in this case compared to the vast benefits people get on this thread the way it has generally been running.

I just think there are certain topics as you mentioned which easily get divisive shouldnt be happening here.

That's my 10 pence 🙂

I think if you can put the words “medical cannabis” at the beginning of a thread does it becomes relevant.. & help keep to what this website is about?

I suppose the first question to answer is what this website is about.

To me MedBud as a main site is a patient resource and the forums are both a patient resource and a space for patients to build relationships and connect.

So in my definition I think inoffensive off topic discussions are a good idea. but I don't know if my definition is shared.

to be honest it's quite a good question to think about.

Its is naive to think so. This is not an anonymous forum.
I would not want a MedBud member getting in trouble because they said naughty words online.
Im sure MedBud does not want to have to give member details over to plod.
There are just many implications of such a simple thing. What we are discussing here is completely legal in medical cannabis.

Ironically in discussing the logistics of political conversation we have in turn created a political conversation.
 
Moderation begins with an organised forum that makes it clear what goes where and what doesn't go anywhere except delete and or ban ;) Clear, communicable: "reason for being - what this forum is for and what it isn't", aims, goals and rules that help the focus and develop & change to meet need, moderators guidlines/flow chart how to do and why etc etc.

It's the way successful forums work 8)

Sorry everyone, I have a bit of a rep for veering off subject, trying to disciplined on slightly the wrong cannabis is hard for me but I need it in some form to try and control my C.I.S!
@OldBloke did you try find a source of CBG? I'm going to order some more today I think it helped, left it off my last order and just got CBD, it's been like having a piece missing from my cannabis jigsaw. Hope the Black Amber zonks you out good bro!

hope the meds are doing the trick nice today!

My symptoms have eased a fair bit so just been doing 0.05 and 0.1 doses to keep them under control. Now I'm left with what feels like a mountain of gear to get through before it goes off.
I should pribably jar up a couple grams seperate from my fuller packs if I can stay around these pain levels.
