Hello,
I’m actually travelling to Norway but I have to get a connecting flight in Finland. I’ve contacted the Finnish border control but they said only certain forms of cannabis would be considered medicine:

In Finland there’s only one accepted medicine cannabis. It’s called Sativex. We understand that in UK it might be under some other name, mut it’s important that your medicine is including only:
  • Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol
  • Cannabidiol
and
  • Cannabis extract and your medicine must be in the form of oral spray.
Otherwise all the other forms of cannabis, even thought it’s a medicine, is considered as drug in Finlad.

So I guess it has to be sativex.

I’m with Alternaleaf and my usual pharmacy is Montu but they don’t have this stuff. Is there any chance that I could get it somewhere else?

Looking into it, even if I could get it the cost would be prohibitive at over £500 for a months supply, or is that outdated information?

Is there any way that I could get my prescription in Norway? I’m only there for 5 nights though. If I had to order it online it probably wouldn’t be worth it by the time I would get it. 😞

I reckon a direct flight is the only option you have. Out of curiosity, did your clinic ask you if it was a direct flight before issuing your travel letter? I’ve just had a travel letter issued and this was one of their questions.

I don’t think I can change the flights now. It was a flight and hotel package deal and when I was booking it the only alternative flights they were offering had a considerable surcharge and I would have rather go without meds than pay it. I think it’s a small airport I’m going to up in the Arctic Circle with not many routes to it, that’s the problem.

I thought Finland was going to be okay though. I asked the embassy if it was okay and they sent me a document with all the regulations on it, or so it appeared, and according to my interpretation you could bring your own medication, even if it was a narcotic as long as you have a prescription and only bring a certain amount of. However, when I looked into it more deeply I found out that cannabis is a schedule I drug in Finland and so cannot be considered medicine. So I wrote to the Finnish border control and asked them if it would be okay if I was only passing through and not leaving the airport, and that was the response I got (see OP).

I haven’t asked the clinic for a letter because I was gonna ask when I have my quarterly review on Wednesday, but as far as I know I wouldn’t have needed one for Norway anyway, just the prescription, but don’t take my word for it on that.

Maybe I’ll ask the clinic when I talk to them on Wednesday if there’s any workarounds or if they can pull any strings for me, but atm it looks like I’ll have to go without my meds unfortunately.

I think you will be fine but the limit for uk travellers is 14 days supply. As long as you disclose to your clinic that you are travelling via Finland, they will only issue a letter if it is legally permitted.

Sounds like a beautiful place you are visiting, would be a shame not be fully 110% medicated
