UK Voices of Cannabis Europa: Philip Schetter, Joshua Cuby and Gabriel Newman, Cantourage

Cannabis Europa London returns on 26-27 May 2026, bringing together operators, investors, clinicians and policymakers from across the global cannabis industry for two days of main stage debate, exhibition, and networking. This article is part of a series published by Business of Cannabis ahead of the event, drawing on the perspectives of Cannabis Europa’s leading sponsors and speakers — the figures setting the commercial, clinical, and regulatory agenda for cannabis in Europe and beyond.

Cantourage is Cannabis Europa London’s Headline Sponsor and one of the event’s most prominent presences on the main stage. Philip Schetter joins the Deal Flow & Due Diligence panel, examining where European cannabis investment is heading; Joshua Cuby takes part in the Isles of Opportunity session on the UK’s near-term commercial prospects; and Gabriel Newman appears on the Beyond Flower panel, asking whether Europe is genuinely moving away from flower or building newer markets in a more politically cautious way. Ahead of the event, Business of Cannabis spoke to all three.

As we head into Cannabis Europa, what do you see as the most significant developments shaping the European cannabis industry right now, and where does Cantourage sit within that picture?

Joshua Cuby: “The headline is that European cannabis is growing up. Regulations are clearer, quality expectations are higher, and capital is more disciplined. Cantourage’s role is to be the partner that already operates to that higher bar, connecting serious cultivators, clinics and investors across Europe, with the UK as one of the main test beds for what the next phase should look like.”

Where does Cantourage see the sharpest near-term opportunities for operators building in the UK today?

Joshua Cuby:“The sharpest near-term opportunity isn’t size, it’s precision. You need to be the ones doing the simple things exceptionally well. Defined patient groups. Tight clinical pathways. Robust supply partnerships. Get those right, and steady growth follows, even in a constrained market.

“Cannabis patients are sharp. They know who’s genuine. The operators they rally behind earn that trust by understanding their journey and staying true to the cause.”

Gabriel Newman: “We see ‘beyond flower’ as an evolution, not a replacement. Cantourage was founded on a mission to fill the void of consistently available, high-quality flower across Europe. Five years on, we can confidently say we achieved that goal.

“But as the market matures, we are doubling down on introducing formats and solutions that give prescribers and patients greater control, predictability and more importantly, visibility of outcomes. That balance of standardisation and data is what will solidify medicinal cannabis as part of the European healthcare system.”

Looking beyond Cannabis Europa, which one or two developments do you believe will define the European market over the next 12 months?

Joshua Cuby: “Over the next 12 months, two things will define this market: regulation that’s actually applicable to the requirements of patients and service providers. For example, electronic prescriptions and cleaner import pathways as an easy win.

“We also need more experienced prescribers, which starts by training and educating them from Med School. That combination will reward operators who can deliver true pharmaceutical‑grade medicines, robust data and real partnership, which is exactly the space Cantourage is here to define.”

Philip Schetter: “Valuations still assume ‘what might happen’ instead of ‘what is bankable today’. To unlock serious institutional capital, we need fewer stories about future adult‑use and more proof of profitable, compliant medical businesses with real assets, contracts and data. When cannabis looks like a normal healthcare or speciality-pharma investment, the big money will come back.”
