Pharmacies Montu Pharmacy

I'm putting in a formal complaint with Montu. Over the past few months I have had to request rewrites. This has got worse recently. The issue is this. When Montu receive a script they allocate the meds to the 'My Medication' page on their webshop. However, they do not 'allocate' the meds to you which often results in you going to pay for your meds but they are no longer available to order. This has now caught me out with my recent script despite getting half of it sent to IPS. I had 30g of Canopy Growth® Kush Mints on my script but within two days of it hitting my medication page it has sold out.
I've tried to address this 2-3 times and was initially told they were hoping to address this soon however, this has not happened and in subsequent email comms with them they don't even state this, now you just get a copy/paste response.

I just don't understand why the meds are not just allocated to you instead they seem to prefer to sell your meds to someone else. I've spoken to them today, unfortunately the guy on the phone was new and didn't know what to do. I have requested this be elevated to a formal complaint. If it's not addressed I'll be changing clinics.

Just wanted to ask...is this the same at other clinics or do they actually reserve your meds until you pay for it?
Yes I've heard of this - quite a few complaints around there IT + slow support (days to respond via email etc).
CB1 Medical 98/100 its reserved before you pay - only twice maybe was a glitch (long gone strain alas) but they told me quickly enough. This should be normal.

Next week is script submission time and like many Alternaleaf patients I've growing more and more frustrated with the stock levels shown at Montu, so I did a bit of a deep dive into the numbers to show really how much of a shitshow things are currently.

Alternaleaf are a budget clinic, it stands to reason that a lot of the patients will have budget limitations to a certain degree. Even without the "budget clinic" attachment it's reasonable to expect a fair selection of decent product at the <£7.50 range.

At the moment Montu claim to have 57 in stock strains below or at £7.50. 23 of those are currently sat at no new requests meaning patients are unable to select the strain.

That leaves 34 available strains, however 17 of them are from Curo, Upstate, Curaleaf and Find. All 4 of which are notorious for overly dry and largely poor product.

I'm not saying all 17 of these strains suck but I am saying they carry a degree of unreliability and poorer patient experience compared to a 4C Labs in that range.

We all know that expiry dates do not mean much, but those that are expiring soon have likely been sat in plastic tubs for months on end. Across the entire Montu range there are 25 soon to be expiring strains and only 6 are set to no new requests. This means that we have 19 strains of old stock with short expiration dates that are without significant price drops.

below is a table which shows the NNR status across the entire range and how it effects various price points. You'd expect the decent cheaper bits to go OOS frequently but It's a sight for sore eyes with 4 price points showing at least a third of flower on NNR and a 5th nearly joining them.

Price BracketTotal StrainsNo New Requests% NNR
£5–5.99261246.2%
£6–6.9926830.8%
£7–7.495360.0%
£7.5–7.9924937.5%
£8–8.99301033.3%
£9–9.99600.0%

Not a great sight for patients trying to juggle finances and compile a suitable script and well articulated mate and I don't look on their formulary too often but have definitely notice a lot that can't be ordered when I do look and they really do have to turn this round sharply as members here who have praised them in the past are becoming very frustrated by recent circumstances .

I had hoped things would start to improve by now and like you say they need to get on this sharp as.

It's crazy to me that patients have to now go to IPS and add time to the script delivery or take risks with poor product / high price points. It's completely unacceptable imo.

I'm lucky enough that I can reluctantly pay more if I have to but so many patients struggle to spend £100s and rely on the lower end of the scale to get relief from their symptoms.

7 out of my 9 strains I had planned on are now NNR. Insanity.

Makes me really see the greener grass you're chomping down over at Cannabis Clinic Cardiff to be honest.

Yes I can see how it would appeal to you and if one pharmacy is struggling it's no issue and actually adds another factor compared to having one maybe two as default at the volume clinics especially when one is having an issue.

Peace of mind can count for a lot especially if you work and this stuff starts to absorb days mentally and I'm loving my journey with CCC even though I'm relatively new with them.

Brilliant. Thank you so much for this 💚
Its absolutely dire and terrible for you and about 90% of patients I would of thought - because of this - I'm no longer recommending Alternaleaf until they sort out their rather sizable issues. I got the Sudz yesterday and its fantastic 100% rec @£55 atm also Jokerz is £60 - these two are in stock at Montu at least BUT piss poor stock of KMI kush mints past week - sold out in <2 days afaik - so like you've highlighted = terrible stock management or perhaps their system(s) are completely broken now?

Thata exactly how I'm viewing it.

Not to mention you probably recoup some of that sign up fee value in reduced pricing options as you shop around pharmacies.

I don't put my script in until Tuesday and I have to get ahead of it now the stock is so bad at Montu but like you say it starts to absorb all of your time.

Things have been bad since April with Montu Imo, I'll give them the summer to try and get this together otherwise I think I'll be pulling your brains a part on CCC.

Honestly it's a shit show.

Don't get me wrong there are SOME value options but it's not looking good. I like Sudz, Jokerz is on my very short list of options 😂.

I think I have to join you on not recommending them currently unless you want to use IPS primarily.

I'm sure things will get better but shit like this makes me realise why Montu are the devil in Australia and NZ.

Suppose that's a good thing that once you've got this prescription sorted you'll be able to see if things start to improve and get more of a feel which way things are going over the next month or so and it's not a race to change clinics it's just about doing what is right for yourself in your circumstance if that time does come 🤷‍♂️

As one patient to another, I kind of felt that at least one big group (clearly now Montu) would struggle this summer so like BM - Where possible have a plan B/C/...
Sad to say - but at this growth rate - it seems true. Somethings going very wrong - and all we can do (at least legally lol) is like you, G. and others are doing here by giving us this fantastic end point data analysis. But yeah 100% the current situation at Montu group is a shit show - and I started to see it from April too.

Cannabis Clinic Cardiff are the one. This week they took on a new staff member.

They didn't wait as long as possible with hordes of new people signing up, getting to breaking point before caving and hiring someone else, and then the struggling staff have to train the new staff, like many of the other clinics do

Out in front, let's get someone trained up early so we can deal with the increased demand as it comes

Absolutely love CCC

That's brilliant to hear! I love a bit of proactivity!

I'm going to give Alternaleaf until Sept, if they've not got it together I'll move to CCC in October. I'm working in the U.S. then so I'll be able to manage tor break in medication without issue.

I think this is so bang on! - I hope they sort their shit but from what I have heard they can only control Upstate/Curo/ Sundaze® stock.

All I want is some Slurricane Mint :(

A poor show and needs addressing pronto or it'll start costing them as people are quite clearly frustrated with this now (y)
I have a feeling they won't be able to restock efficiently to get a head of things. At least not soon.

I had "the chat" with my Mrs last night about changing clinics and joining Cannabis Clinic Cardiff, I doubt I'm the only one in this boat like you say.

I have heard they have more 4C Labs carts coming in but I've heard nothing but negativity for those.

Having made the switch myself and with hindsight it really is a no brainer and more so with amounts you need to spend on your prescription and if spending these amounts you should be able to get what is available instead of compromising.

I completely agree with you. Obviously there's a slight price variation but I was paying a fortune at Wellfords anyway.

Alternaleaf
£10*12
= £120

Wellfords
£50*6=£300
+ £70 joining fee
+ £20 Repeat fee
=£490

Cannabis Clinic Cardiff:
£33pm * 12 = £399.96pa
+ £250 year 1
= 649.96

The fact I can access more variety medication means I would probably see that cost difference back in a matter of months.

When I view it like this, given the nonsense at both Alternaleaf and Wellfords (pre app), the costs really don't seem that bad - especially from yr2 onwards.

That's it and after the £250 in effect it probably pays for itself going forward but for me as an unpaid carer it was a massive amount and I literally had to borrow it but so glad I did because my mental health improved for it and all round feelgood factor .
