Hey guys, I've got a mate who is having random seizures while exhaling bong vapour, says it happens maybe 1 in 50 times, happened one day in front of me and I can only describe it as it looks like a robot malfunctioning for about 30 sec then he gets up and is absolutely fine... his body seizes up then goes all jerky and slowly drops to the ground but his eyes are still open looking at you and claims he can still hear and see everything but can't speak during this... He's hesitant to go to his doctor incase it affects his right to drive etc... I've personally never seen or heard of this before anyone got any idea whats going on here?

Hes a bm user 20+ years (mostly vapes now but happened as often when he used to combust) consumes about the same as me so roughly 80g a month

Do they excessively hold their breathe on the inhale 🤷‍♂️ and that doesn't sound nice to go through or witness and something I don't understand is going on there and surely he's needs to get checked out as there could be an underlying reason that is treatable .🙏

Sounds like a focal aware seizure and if only happening when consuming weed then maybe THC induced as it can be both pro and anti convulsant.

What kind of bm stuff is he using is it clean , is there a specific strain that triggers , Is the vapes clean THC not hhc for instance.

Hows the diet is he eating well before it, I have grand mal epilepsy and know how he feels but doc is the 100% best option open to him , massive risk to him and others on the road if driving with having them. 1 year seizure free is all he needs to drive again

Get him on a canna script and some CBD. So much at play but a ct will rule out any other stuff if anything going on and better to get it checked and ruled out.

It only ever happens on the exhale during a bong and yeah he does hold the vapour in for atleast 5 seconds so that might be a factor? He mostly vaped high end cali before medical and seemed to happen regardless of the strain (hes now medical but also worried he’ll lose it if he tells doctor) I’ve known about it for years but recently was the first time actually seeing it happen

To be clear its never happened to him smoking a j or any other scenario apart from inhalation of a bong with cannabis so it does really look as if something weird is going on here 👀

I would go to a doctor immediately to be honest seizures are no joke. Losing your right to drive isn’t of great importance if you have an undiagnosed brain tumour. Just my 2p

But why would taking a bong of weed make a brain tumor behave that way?

That's a great question for a doctor!

As much as I could give you some plausible theories or explanations, I'm not professionally trained, and even if I was, this isn't something in my opinion that should be diagnosed remotely.

And excuse any ignorance on my part, but they'd only lose their lisence if they were deemed unsafe to drive, right? So for me that wouldn't be a concern. They are either well and safe to drive, or not.

Its not just the driving thing that hes worried about, being taken off MC is the main thing...

I get the concern and obviously don’t know what they medicate for so am stripped of that context but personally for me seizures would supersede my medical cannabis use the instant I had just one let alone multiple with repeatable trigger conditions.

if the seizure only occurs during the consumption of a bong that isn't gonna happen while driving so that's why its been put on the back burner as far as driving goes, its taken him a long time to go onto MC and been on BM longer than me probably around 30 years to deal with a range of conditions so it would be extremely detrimental if he went to the doctor and they removed him from the MC register

And I forgot to mention he did once tell his GP and they just suggested he quit cannabis with no further help available...

That is the case currently but what is your indication that their condition is stable?

Unfortunately that is the logical place to start, if bong hits are currently the only trigger.

Personally if using a medication was causing me to have seizures I would stop immediately and consult a doctor, but I cannot speak for them, their condition, what they medicate for, or other circumstances.

What you’re describing sounds like a real seizure. Cannabis could be a trigger, but it could also be a sign of an underlying neurological issue. Even if he feels fine afterward, this is serious and needs medical attention. Seizures can be dangerous, especially if they happen suddenly or during activities like driving. Holding in smoke or vapor could also contribute to oxygen deprivation, which might trigger something like this. He should see a doctor or neurologist as soon as possible and be honest about his cannabis use so they can assess it properly. Ignoring it is risky.

All seizures are real but yes it could be a focal aware or focal atonic or anything and as i said docs is best option open to him , hope he got ct scan to rule out anything , I wasn't diagnosing him or giving advice not to go to docs but i hope hes on clean cannabis and some CBD.
He took a seizure could be THC that caused it needs to see a doc and get scanned hope he did

I think its a focal seizure and not generalised because of aware throughout it
