It's not uncommon. They do it to differentiate THC% without confusing the patient.

4C Labs do it with Blue Lobster and Blue Sunset because one pheno is 19% and the other is about 25%.

I'm starting to learn they name strains whatever the shit they want. Aurora®'s Frosted Lemon Haze has no Haze lineage for example (Jet fuel and lime Mac).
