Stigma and perception

With my first consultation approaching fast I'm thinking about the next week or so and assuming I'm given the go-ahead to begin my MC journey.
The only thing I can't guage is the stigma and discrimination. My circle hold a dim view of recreational drugs and [as far as I know] have had minimal to zero experience of MC to make any distinctions. I'm not particularly open about my previous use some years ago so they're going to all need to be educated. So be it.
What kind of reactions did you face when you were approved? Did you get a load of shit off your nearest and dearest, or were they really supportive? For those in work were your employers supportive or did you have to jump through throretical flaming hoops on a bike with a barbed wire saddle to be able to do your job?
Cheers 🙂

Its getting your circle to realise that alcohol is 1 of the worst recreational drugs out there some the penny will drop that there is no difference and its 1 of the worst drugs and if they dont drink and maybe even religious just tell them your away to use the aromatic cane or kaneh bhosm oil lol .
Its not up to you its up to them to look into what you are consuming, The unanitiated and unanointed ones wont understand lol
Try and look on YouTube for concrete nice successful stories with canna that supports your condition illness and show them. Having epilepsy and illegaly healing myself i found what i was doing more accepted cos it was treating kids seizures , global acceptance came with charlotte figi R.I.P. kid

Welcome I have been lucky - and I say that because stigma definitely still exists, and some members here have been on the receiving end of it

Family & friends have welcomed the news. I told my manager at work immediately when I was prescribed. All fine.

Family, friends, acquaintences and others are now prescribed after me telling them about it. I was even able to tell my mum who I've hid it from all my life because she has a dim view, but she has full respect for doctors. I show a prescription label and a prescription and she was totally fine about it. All interactions with anyone have gone well, either straight away, or in the end after some explaining

It's not recreational now, first thing is for you yourself to get used to the idea that you are now taking a clinically supervised, legal and appropriate treatment for your disabilities and/or long term conditions.

You have certain safeguards under the law because of this - notably under the Equality Act 2010, not to face discrimination or harassment because of using your legally prescribed meds.

Once you get comfortable yourself, you may feel more comfortable sharing with others

First thing I would say is don't tell anyone it's none of their business. Two don't worry about what anyone really thinks, if they are genuine friends then this could not break that. Three and this is just me from my self medicating weed days is just because it's legal and you can, don't throw it in anyone's face.

I keep it down low like the old days, I am discreet. What is to gain by marching up and down the high street smoking weed? To what end? Clout chasing? Wind up people?

This sounds to me a little confrontational. It's not your job or right to educate anyone on cannabis.

Yeah, I know you're right, but I'm feeling easier now it's not so new to me as it was a fortnight ago. I intend to be very discreet about it, but after 20+ years in the emergency services, including ex-police, I have a lot of friends and family still in that have some very strong opinions. I say "educate" when in reality I probably mean "justify myself", although an element of education may go a way towards wider acceptance and understanding if my experiences are anything to go by.
