Hi, I am new to the medical cannabis world. I have suffered with insomnia and anxiety for many years. I’ve been to my GP about this over the years but was always reluctant to take medications. I have recently been prescribed zolpidem 10 mg, sertraline 50mg and diazepam 2mg. I also had zopiclone 7.5 mg prescribed previously last month which has now stopped. I have also had counselling for this in the past. It’s also noted throughout my GP care summary, issues with anxiety, tiredness and difficulty sleeping since 2006 onwards.

I applied to CB1 Medical and sent them an e-mail asking about my eligibility at the same time as applying. I was advised in response to my e-mail that as id recently only started medication to wait a few months before applying. However I had already applied and was accepted for an appointment with one of the specialist doctors after submitting my GP care summary to them.

I’m just kind of confused now if I should cancel the appointment and reapply in a few months or as I’ve been given an appointment after submitting my GP care summary does that mean they have looked and assessed me as being eligible?

If anyone has any experience with this and could shed any light on the situation that would be great.
Thank you :)

I would hope if they have seen your summary of care record and then proceeded book you an appointment I'd go with that myself rather than an email correspondence with someone who may not be medically trained, myself I've have very few meds in my life but had the two medications needed years apart and not for long for similar reasons to yourself, reluctancy to take pharmaceuticals. Also I know counselling counts as a treatment/therapy from what I learnt whilst here. You seem to have had enough medications.

Don't think they would waste an appointment slot if they thought you wouldn't qualify. As you mention they must have looked and assessed you as being eligible and it would not cost you if you don't qualify , maybe the hesitancy as conventional meds have not failed with your latest medication is still being trialled/used by you ,hence not failed Yet, I would say just explain your thoughts on conventional medications and reluctancies with them .
I would not cancel in the situation you are. Hope this helps a bit and good luck.(y)

Hey, thanks for the reply, yeah I randomly got the message through on the app I was eligible and have been accepted for an appointment after being told from customer care to apply in a few months time. I was a bit taken aback by it so wasn’t sure, didn’t want to waste the appointment slot if they thought I wouldn’t qualify, but as you say if they booked the appointment after seeing my care summary which lists all medications and start dates it wouldn’t make sense to book the appointment to tell me I’m not eligible.

Hopefully it goes through. I was encouraged because my partner was prescribed her MC last month by CB1 Medical and I’ve seen the difference it has made to her life which I hope I am eligible and can get the same benefit from.

That's it even after years of self medicating I still benefited from the choice on medical and its made a massive difference to my day by adding Sativa Hybrid in. As you may of read on here my wife has just joined CB1 and we're hoping it has a similar effect it's had on your partner ,also like I said for me after years of use ,it still been an improvement.
Hopefully before long you'll be on it also . (y)

I had a sort of similar situation, someone on the phone got derailed by one element of my medical history and tried sending me on this long goose-chase for extra things.

I found one letter that was the end of this medical 'thread' for me, where the consultant made a diagnosis. Sent that in and someone else said we're all good and I was booked in. If you've got the appointment I'd agree with @GrownHealth and assume that means you're all good

It seems the current business model (yes, business right now, unfortunately) is not to waste time on you unless it's clear they're going to prescribe.

Sounds like you're on the way to getting some relief hopefully - I have issues sleeping also, and cannabis has always fixed it for me (or let me sleep enough to manage), all the best and fingers crossed for you

Oh yes oh yes

It's such a difference having a drawer of different options for certain situations, or a certain gripe is flaring up:

- 'I'll having something relaxing and sedating right now as I need to sleep'

- 'I'll have something mood-boosting and calming without the sedation right now as I need to go to work'

- 'I've got a headache so I'll use this strain I know is good for relief from that'

That's what my bedside table was like when I lived in Holland all those years ago ,selection wise .
Be prepared and all that :giggle:
On a more serious note the having a toolbox of strains with differing attributes and effects can and does make a hell of a difference .

I used to self medicate before and during university however after finishing I had a professional career and a family to take care of so had to stop due to fear of being caught with it and losing everything so medical is the only way to go for me as I need a prescription so no one can make any assumptions or questions around me using it.

I mentioned that in my first appointment - that it would take a lot of the stress out of life for me if I didn't have to secretly self-medicate, and go through all the shady stuff involved in getting hold of it

Now it comes in the post and I'm legal, so good

I suppose they have to be seen to be strict on their criteria due to government audits and reviews if they are seen being too complacent they risk their medical licences or their licence to prescribe and distribute MC. The government still does not want any form of recreational industry so the prescribers seem to have to act within strict guidelines so as not to be seen as distributing controlled substances easily. On the bright side from what I’ve read it appears to be more relaxed than it was in 2018. Yeah I hope they approve it, if not I can always reapply, I was worried due to me only recently starting medications it just looks like i just got prescribed a few meds then applied to get MC asap. Probably over thinking it.

This is a major factor in helping my mental health, legality ,and totally understand your reasoning ,we lived under a cloud of fear for far too long but now common sense is starting to prevail people like yourself will get the relief they've always known was available without the stigma , risks or fear. :)

It’s such a shame the UK government is so resilient to any form of recreational use even though it’s been proven time and time again to be safer than alcohol. I get envious of videos of people in California who can walk into a dispensary, get a plant or some seeds and grow their own at home fully legal no stigma. It’s like 2 different realities.

I used to sleep so well when I self medicated and my mood was so much better it’s been a long time and a lot of sleepless nights and anxiety since then. I tired CBD oil but it wasn’t enough helped me relax a little but wasn’t enough to get me over to sleep. Hoping I get approved and get some relief!

Please feel free to sign the petition for MC patients to grow their own ,but if we can get friends, family and neighbours to sign this could gather some real traction and be a start of real changes. 🌱 🤞

I saw that and signed it and send it to others to sign as well!

Appears to be a no go on CB1 Medical they cancelled my appointment and stated I need to wait for a few months and need to wait to be seen further by psychiatry before they would assess me for medical cannabis bit frustrating im currently on Zolpidem, sertraline, diazepam and previously on Zopiclone, and may be started on propanalol seems a bit harsh, any ideas on any other clinics who may be more open in relation to this?

Would just try another one and see what they think, I only have experience with my own case and clinic so can't really suggest more than that

Maybe have a read of this thread. (y) They specialise in Mental Health. have a read of their website.
