I’m known in circles, my leaves spread wide,
In ancient lands, I’ve long been a guide.
From Eastern plains to Western shores,
I’ve sparked the minds of lore and wars.

In quiet gardens, I softly thrive,
A humble herb, yet keen to survive.
I’ve been the muse of poets bold,
And in your hands, my secrets unfold.

My roots go deep in sacred ground,
With hidden power, profound, unbound.
Through green I grow, and flowers I bear,
A pungent fragrance fills the air.

But my nature’s complex, not all can see,
The way I dance with chemistry.
Some seek to calm, others to cure,
My gifts come with risks, both sure and pure.

I’m wrapped in smoke or oils so neat,
And some may say I’m not for the meek.
From edibles to vapors, my forms are vast,
Yet with moderation, I’m made to last.

What am I, with history so wide,
I’ve healed and harmed, I’ve swayed the tide?
I’m both revered and feared, indeed,
A plant of power, in word and deed.
