Hey, I’m Steven. I’m a UK medical cannabis patient using it to manage fibromyalgia, adverse neural dynamics, depression, and anxiety.

Like most 16-year-olds, I tried cannabis briefly back in the day — but didn’t touch it again until 2023. In September, I started dealing with severe chronic pain, and by November I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and adverse neural dynamics. The months that followed were brutal. Doctors just kept throwing painkillers at me that didn’t help. For two years, I was stuck. I barely left the house — and when I did, I wouldn’t even get out of the car.

After a lot of research, one thing kept coming up in studies and trials: medical cannabis. Me and my wife talked about it for weeks. We’ve got three kids (16M, 12F, 3F), so it wasn’t a decision we took lightly. We didn’t want to hide it, but we did want to store it safely and responsibly — so we found a Moonlight Haze smell-proof storage system that works really well.

There was also the stigma to deal with.

At first, I was with Curaleaf Clinic, but the cost started stacking up — £169 for my first prescription, and £10 a month for membership. I’ve recently switched to CB1 Medical, which has been a big improvement. They offer a better range of flower at the same price or cheaper, and my first year of membership was free. Even after that, it’s only £50 per year — way more affordable.

Medical cannabis hasn’t fixed everything, but it’s helped massively with pain, sleep, stress, and just being able to function. I’m here to track the strains I try, figure out what works, and hopefully connect with others on a similar journey. No hype, no BS — just trying to live a bit easier, one day at a time.

Welcome to the Community @IBearWeed, its good to hear you now happy with your new clinic, your in good hands being with CB1 Medical 👍

Welcome to the forum Steven👏

it's refreshing to see you have took control of your treatment and for the better as with a young family you need the best you can get to aid in trying to keep things under control and with CB1 Medical the flexibility and choices seem suited to many including my wife who has many symptoms in common to what you describe and we found ourselves in similar circumstances to yourself with a young family.

Thankfully you have found a way forward at a more affordable clinic to continue your MC journey and you'll find plenty of fellow members with similar backgrounds here all coming together to find what works best for them and sharing their experiences so just ask or join in where you want to as we are a warm and welcoming bunch(y)

Welcome Steven :)

Until MC is mainstream in the UK then we will suffer discrimination sorry to say - but you've got a solid community here mate
I love the support here when you need it, you can't beat it, we are all in the same boat but with different issues and its great that we all muck in if someone needs that extra hand now and again 😎 👍

Welcome Steven,

Thank you for sharing all of that! It seems like you're in a similar boat to many of us.

You can probably tell from the comments how tight knit this place is.

Any particular strains you've really enjoyed since starting your journey?

Aye am sure that would certainly raise more awareness!Personally iNever find any time to be able to sit and be programed but hey, why not until you know who says " oh NO you could never have this type of behaviour on the TV !"
Time For Change ✊🏼
Felt a small uprising starting there haha 😄

Hi I’m T, I’ve just joined the forum as it looks like the best place I could possibly get some advice and freely talk without judgment !
I am looking to sign up with a medical cannabis clinic but unsure where to turn for affordability.
I’ve Signed up with releaf but seems very expensive? Haven’t actually ordered anything yet but need to get the ball in motion.
Thank you

Welcome to the Community @Timely, You could try CB1 Medical, its £50 for the year and free for your first year if your transferring from another clinic. I find them excellent for service and I get to choose my own Medical Flower. I've been with them coming on 9mths and no issues so far 👍

Welcome to the community @Timely!

Avoid Releaf, It's as close to a scam as you can get. They charge insane fees for the exact same medication you can get at a lot less elsewhere.

If budget is what we're aiming towards then there's a few good options:

Medicann - Brand new to the mainland market but established as a brand nonetheless. Absolutely free. They've only just launched but use IPS as a pharmacy and appear to be leading the way with the £0 fee models.

If you want something a bit more established then there's a few more good options.

Alternaleaf are £10pm or £39 per appt. There's no other hidden fees. I will say they're experiencing some issues with lots of new patients. so their service is currently lacking somewhat but it is the most popular option in the UK.

CB1 Medical are next, they charge £50PA but with medication shipping fees that goes up to around the £120 mark to compete with Alternaleaf. They have a much better support team that Alternaleaf in terms of communication but occasionally have issues on the pharmacy front in terms of variety and prices. They're not one to honour price reductions whereas other pharmacies do.

Curaleaf - They're on the cheaper end like Alternaleaf and CB1 Medical but they're doctor led. So this means the doctor chooses your strains, allowance, etc. without much of a patient input. All the other clinics tend to operate with the patient leading the way on what they would like. It is helpful if you're new to cannabis altogether and a lot of patients start their journey here.

My advice would be Medicann or Alternaleaf/CB1 (with a warning of stock issues but you can choose any pharmacy do its not that deep).

We have a lot of members in the community from pretty much every clinic so I'm sure you'll get some first hand experiences. I'm with Alternaleaf and have been with a couple of others previous. I find Alternaleaf as a clinic to be fine, comms are a little slow but its £10pm so I don't care that much. The issue is with the pharmacy Montu. These guys have really struggled to meet the demand of the Alternaleaf patient base and it has caused stock issues but as I've mentioned you can go to other pharmacies.

I would recommend signing up to store. Montu.uk/collections/catalog and having a browse of their offerings to get an idea of how the market prices its products. which in turn will help you figure out a rough monthly cost.

Welcome to the forum @Timely and many like yourself have took the same initial step into MC with Releaf but soon see other options are more suited and here's a thread of another member in a similar situation and a few others experience's in a similar situation when looking to change (y)
