I’m desperate for help as I’m in so much pain. My meds don’t help, I’ve tried so many other ways now I’m turning to this to ask if anyone can explain the best way to require cannabis. I can’t afford the prices the clinics charge. Is it cheaper through the NHS? Can anyone please please help me and explain it all to me. I’m in my 60’s so it all a bit confusing. Thanks

Hello and welcome Motherjoy, it can be intimidating with all the different options etc and I am no expert so will let someone better informed answer more completely but in short there is limited product availability via the NHS and the "patient access schemes" seem to be quote prohibitive still when it comes to cost. I guess as a starting point, do you know what works for your pain, if you are looking for flowers then private is the only option that I am aware of that is legal.

Welcome @Motherjoy and sorry to hear of your pain and realistically at the moment the only way to get flower/bud to help is through private clinics but don't be put off as you can join some clinics now for £50/year and get access to medical cannabis from around £5/g usually so its not as daunting as it may seem financially to get help but it would be nice for the NHS to cover this .
If you want advice on how to approach this and the cheapest options just let us know and we'll guide you further as many here get relief from pain and Medical Cannabis can be a great source of this relief.
Once again welcome .

Thank you so much you’ve given me some hope. What is flower/Bud please? How do you take it as I don’t smoke or vape?

Thank you. I need to look further into this. At the moment I’m on codeine which was halved then halved again without notice so I’m given 56 a month . Not even two a day. I’m also on Pregabalin, 100 ml a day. I was on 600ml a day but wasn’t sure if it was benefiting me apart from me having even worse brain fog and being really unsteady.

Flower/ Bud is what people typically smoke but on Medical you are meant to vape it but obviously this change doesn't happen overnight to vaping and took me a year

There are also Vape Cartridges/pens where you you vape a liquid and for people not used to Cannabis this can be a great way to take the medicine.

Also there are sublingual oils where you just use a pipette and place the liquid under your tongue to dissolve .

Edible pastilles are also available too .
I understand this may sound confusing but they are quite simple to use these products that are not flower where as the flower and vaping requires a bit more knowledge in using a vape but it's not too hard to pick up. (y)

I will say since starting Medical Cannabis and CBD/THC oil my wife's brain fog (which used to be a big thing when using lots of meds ) seems to not be as common and she just said her mental health has improved she reckons and can retain information better etc as a result and she also suffers pain too which she uses high THC flower for but she has used cannabis for 20 years so has some tolerance .

What is a good price per gram please. I’ve looked at CB1 Medical everything looks so expensive. So 30ml oil for around £80 how long does this last ?

Thank you, I worry about vaping or smoking. Does it work out a lot more expensive to use oils ipunder your tongue plus is it as effective

I 've personally been trying to get stuff at about £6-7/g but a lot of meds are £8.50/g and that's where the best quality is in general but effective meds are available at around £5-7 /gram just not as good allround quality as some more expensive meds .
As for the oil my wife has a bottle of Somaí T25:C25 mint and this looks like it will last about 8 weeks possibly and cost £95 where as you may be less tolerant if you are new to cannabis and may need a smaller dose making it last longer . (y)

With oils they take effect over a longer period and are slower to kick in where as vaping/smoking is more instant and quicker to wear off also vaping can be dry herb/flower and this is nearer to actual smoking or through a vape pen which is a liquid and a different experience to the vaping flower and the vape pens are useful if out and about as they are discreet.
I'd certainly say oils are effective for some as in my wife's case but most find the main relief from flower and many patients have used cannabis for years so if you are new to cannabis it's really about tip toeing and building tolerance up as you find relief and the doctors are super knowledgeable I've found and easy to talk to .

Maybe if the doctor found it suitable you could combine say oils with a vape pen for when you need more immediate relief from pain whilst taking the oils as directed say 2 or 3 times per day and the pen when needed this is how to combine different methods to get the best results some find.

I use oils as well as flower, so far I have found oil very effective for my issues - I also heard that oil alone is the cheapest and works very well for pain.

Hi, I went with CB1 Medical then started on an oil last Thursday at .1ml. I’ve gradually built up as I felt no difference in myself or pain. I’m now on .4ml still nothing. Not sure what to do

Sorry to hear this and they started my wife on T10:C10 mint and she ended up taking .5ml 3 times a day and the next bottle was T25:C25 and whilst the first bottle helped build tolerance and she started to feel some relief and more mental clarity she then moved onto the the stronger bottle which is two and a half times as strong as the first and is currently taking this but has coincidentally had a major flare so judging the oil is hard to do in these circumstances .
But reading back to your opening post and for the pain maybe you do need to consider say a vape pen or similar for that relief and prices have reduced on these products recently but the relief is more immediate and apparent also I'll say with the oil in my wife's case she is still needing strong flower to combat pain and it still kicks through at times especially in a flare.

CB1 Medical are your clinic and need to prescribe you the oil and then you have a choice of which pharmacy to get the product from but CB1 pharmacy are the right price for this product .
So in short any Medical Cannabis product will be prescribed through your chosen clinic CB1 Medical and then sent to a Medical Cannabis dispensing pharmacy of which there are 27 in the UK mainland but is often a lot more easy to use your own pharmacy in your case CB1 Pharmacy as this often speeds things up but if a product is cheaper elsewhere then that is a different matter and worth chasing the cheaper price
Below is an example of a vape pen that may be worth considering.
The Blueberry Cookies is in stock at the moment at CB1 although is says out of stock here but is £95 so not the cheapest but a lot more immediate effect.
