Got my first consultation with CB1 Medical this Saturday and also waiting for my ID to arrive tomorrow so I can proceed with Medican and Alternaleaf - not sure which I will plump for yet.

Anyway, I've suffered with insomnia and anxiety as a result for two years now. I believe I will qualify for MC treatment as I have been on several medications with no real improvement. I was just wondering if anyone can share their success stories with MC and insomnia? Give me a little hope to latch on to.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Community @tomfretwell i have different health issues so cant really help but there's plenty of people here in the community who can help more who have similar conditions to yourself. Good luck on your MC journey, I'm sure you'll have a prescription soon 👍

Hello and welcome.
I am being treated for anxiety and have trouble sleeping following a cancer diagnosis. I have found flower, oil and CBD combined to be helpful with sleep. Everyone's systems are different and it may take a while to dial in the right flowers, oil strength and CBD strength but I think you will find things that help. I'm 13 days away from surgery and my anxiety is off the charts but I'm still sleeping reasonably well...considering. I go for Hybrid or Indica flowers but have learned (for me personally) that higher THC doesn't equate to more sleep and my sweet spot seems to be 26-28% THC. Try to identify terpene profiles as well. I tend to look for Myrcene, Carophylene as dominant terpenes. I have a T25:C25 oil that I take before bed (0.3-0.5ml) and a 60mg CBD tablet (THC free but lots of added terpenes).
Good luck on your journey

Thank you for your reply and I wish you all the best with your journey too, hope the surgery goes well.

I have still not got my head around the terpenes etc. I am hoping the consultation doctor will be able to advise.

May I ask, how many hours per night does this MC treatment get you? Thanks.

at the moment 3-4 hours. My bladder wakes me up and then my brain keeps me awake. With the MC and the CBD I find it easier to go back to sleep, with less brain churning and ceiling staring

I don't have diagnosed insomnia but ADHD makes going to sleep and especially staying asleep very hard for me. Then I am exhausted which increases the bad side of ADHD.

If I vape/eat literally anything (doesn't even need to be a "sleepy" strain, I energize during the day with Limonene terpenes) enough during the day, I have completely normal and uninterrupted sleep, 6-7 hours which is a lot for me.

p.s. I only ever had anxiety attacks when sober, triggered by ADHD overwhelming, NEVER had one when medicated.

Thanks for this.
I really hope it has this effect on me.

I have recently been put on a new sleep med called Quviviq, not sure if you have heard of it. It's kinda been helping me sleep but the next day hangover + anxiety is off the chart and not worth the trade off.

Yeah sleeing meds are horrific IMO, my dad takes 2 different kinds (to go to sleep and to stay asleep) and oh boy, are they destructive. Basically hard drugs.

MC "hangover" is a bit of a thing if you're brand new, but you will very soon forget about it and it's non comparable to the synth stuff. Just a bit of drowsiness, but that morning slowness will go away in like 2 weeks if you start medicating daily.

I do believe MC IS the "cure" for bad sleep combined with anxiety, it was for me.

Your reassurance means a lot.

Do you have any experience in using MC as a bridge to taper off medication such as anti-depressants etc.? I am hoping it will assist me with this too, because they are brutal drugs too that I hate being on and to be honest don't even work any more.

Not really, but I am sure other people can share their experiences. I have mostly taken MC in my life and nothing else to ease symptoms for 20+ years.

I do find myself using a strain with Limonene dominant or a good portion of it throughout the day and a decent Indica Hybrid of an evening does help a lot with sleep.

Thanks for the tip.

Yeah I am hoping to be prescribed something gentle in the day to keep my cortisol and anxiety down and then a little something at night for sleep, like you, hoping the combination of the two will help with sleep again. I am a full time parent with a very challenging child + a little angel haha. I also have a magnesium deficiency that I can't seem to reverse because my stress levels are just burning through it every day, more than I can put it. Again, hoping something gentle in the day will give my system the calm and room to breath to heal!

Welcome friend

You say insomnia and anxiety, and I say Peace Naturals® Wedding Cake for evening / bedtime use

There are loads of other strains which help me with both specifically - Linalool is a good terp to look for in profiles
Hi, thanks for the welcome.

Great, I'll keep an eye out for them and will research the terp you've mentioned. How has your experience been with MC and insomnia then, if you don't mind me asking? Like, have you been on sleep meds, anti-anxiety meds before etc, how does the MC match up?

I used to smoke when I was like 18 and never knew anything about strains and terpenes etc, and for the several years I smoked at that age, I never experienced anything that energized me. Everything just zonked me, gave me munchies and put me to sleep. So all these new variables are all new to me!

Yes I've had various chemical pills all to no avail, canna works wonders for me for sleep generally, I've recently added sublingual oil to my daily medical routine and it really helps with getting back to sleep after the wake-ups

Both flower and oil in combination has been great for me overall, and I've been adding CBD in too which is also good for both anxiety and sleep

Hi Tom, welcome!

Insomnia and anxiety are the reasons I signed up for MC in July last year, and it has been a mostly positive experience for me so far.

I would say it's about 70/30 good/bad on the medications I have purchased since I joined. As I've learned from this forum, one particular strain may not work for you, but it may work for someone else (and vice versa). Therefore, expect a bit of trial and error in finding what suits your needs.

My first prescription was selected for me by the Doctor I had a video call with, and unfortunately, the medication (flower/bud) wasn't very effective for me at all.

In my 2nd prescription and every monthly prescription since then, I've had to choose the products myself, and that's where this forum and the MedBud.wiki site have been a huge help for me to get good medication.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've had insomnia since using MC in the last several months, which is a massive improvement compared to before. My anxiety has also reduced massively. I feel more in equilibrium with life, which has surprised me as I thought the benefit would just be when I'm using the medicine, but I feel it's had a general positive effect overall on my well-being. I feel like I am making more positive decisions. I went on a few solo holidays, joined a gym and pay more attention to my self-care (cleaning/lifestyle etc.) than I was before.

Good luck in your MC journey
