On the back of the recent Big Fozz and Smack Salad announcement for their joined venture in a Medical Cannabis Auditing YouTube channel and another recent in-public Smacksalad video I was wondering what everyone thinks of patient usage, etiquette and what we should be allowed to do.

I'm learning more and more that a lot of people have very different views to myself and that's okay, but as a result it's left me more curious about what the general feel is when it comes to medicating in public.

I appreciate this is a really splitting subject but I'm super interested. Do you think patients should be allowed to medicate almost anywhere as per the law? or do you think there should be a different approach? - no right or wrong answers.

Does anyone have a problem with someone like myself with epilepsy should medicate almost anywhere to prevent seizure, i am sure alot of decent people would accommodate and i feel its one condition that needs to be took seriously as regards cannabis and public usage, I feel with ill informed police that it wasnt worth confiscation of meds with going out in public with flower so vapes took a bit of anxiety away.

We should all know our rights and stand up for ourselves and i welcome anyone who knows the law and challenge it , They dont give us religious prayer rooms because they love religion , its about discrimination and same applies here , if they dont provide an area then we will being within our rights , Breast feeding in public could fall under kind of same scrutiny and discrimination

I agree with you mate.

If anyone replies disagreeing, try not to take it personally. I don't want this to get personal for anyone.

I use the breast feeding analogy quite often in terms of not liking what you see/smell. The amount of people who would make people feel like porn stars for breastfeeding is crazy.

Having read similar threads on Reddit and the thoughts of some on here I am quite surprised that we tend to be the minority of people thinking like this. - hence my interest in the matter

I tend to be discreet in my usage and as i said the vapes help in public , i use oils as a base and to alot of patients thats enough but i need to have something on me in public just for precaution. I wouldnt use in coffee shops or anything like that but , I think it would be better and more comfortable if there were lounges for consumption.

Maybe i shouldnt have started my reply with does anyone have a problem lol i wont reply back negative and dont take anything personal , loads of different opinions and views but there is a disability equality act that we are covered under and there is discrimination, Smack is just educating places for future engagements with patients and helpful for both parties. It may have annoyed people on how he has went about it but facts acts and law is there .

Being reasonable I think is hard to define but generally easy to do once people understand the spirit of it

Currently I feel people who don't want us to be able to medicate when and where we need to are not close to reasonable, are not listening, even think we are disgusting in some cases.

People like Smack are pushing things a little, moreso I think for the patients who more often would need to medicate in a public place due to relevant issues and conditions.

90 times out of a hundred I would just go outside / leave the place and that would be fine.

It's those 10 of a hundered where I would genuinely need to do it where I fear the very real stigma of some of the British public, and the sheer shit I would have to deal with - up to and including being assaulted - that means I will stay at home.

So even someone like me who most often doesn't need to 'medicate in place' doesn't feel comfortable to either leave the house, or use a particular public place unless I feel well enough not to medicate there. Someone with mobility issues for example where it's not reasonable to have them in and out all the time is effectively just not going to use those places.

The law says we are allowed to, I think we should be allowed to. I think we should be reasonable about doing it, I think other people and establishments should be reasonable about it too.

How this looks we don't know, probably depends on the place - could be dedicated spaces/areas, could be in the toilets where it stinks of shit and chemicals anyway, or it could just be better understanding about cannabis.

But it needs to be something more than being abused, discriminated against, and essentially being ostracised from public spaces.

People like Smack are raising awareness and people may not like how he does it, but we are going to need all forms of activism to move this thing on to where we are not reviled for being disabled / ill and simply using prescribed medication when needed

I’m sure it’s different in more rural areas but I’ve been in a couple of London bars and restaurants since I’ve become and MC and they’ve all been happy for me to vape some flower when I’ve needed to. I’ve been super polite and shown them the packaging etc as it’s generally been new to them.

I’ve had a vape walking around Westfield too after talking to security so I didn’t get jumped!

I would be happy if we could prepare our meds indoors wherever we are. As for using medication, I stick to only taking when I NEED to. Now sometimes this will be indoors, and for those moments the equality act has MC patients covered. I seek out discreet tables and use a carbon sponge filter to capture the visible vapour. The key is that we are showing respect.

Peace and love

Yes we should, however, I am very secretive in my use at home or in public, dont want to bring attention in this degraded society, full of people that have little concern or understanding of anyone other than themselves. If you are lucky enough to be able to get in the countryside or a nice wood, away from the hoopleheads then these are usually better environments for participation of youre medicine outdoors without hassle.
PS. Smacksalad is an intelligent, funny and very erudite gentleman who through his actions is improving things for everyone,I thank him and other such people.

Wow youre brave, talking as a increasingly reclusive person due to lack of mobility,I am really pleased to hear this, more upbeat tales to give us hope please.

Make poverty history,cheaper drugs now.

to be honest I've been self medicating for 40 odd years and never given a hoot whether it's public or not. For the last 20yrs I've smelt weed almost all over Manchester. But I have nothing to lose, and dint care about dibble or the law. However I do agree that those with a script should be able to access their medication wherever they want.

😁

My personal view is, I like to find a private spot. However I'm just starting my legal journey, although even when legal my own compass would say as long as no kids about.

Personally I would still pick a out of the way spot, mainly because I don't want hassle or confrontation, neither do I want people asking me if they could try some or buy some.

But each to their own, if your happy where you take it, then I don't see why not. I should Add I like a quiet peaceful location out of the way, I enjoy it that way and in public I'm not that sociable, being ND I find people somewhat emotionally draining. That's my 50 pence (inflation 😲😂).

A few times I filled my vape in coffee shops and restaurants last week in London. Each time I just said to the owner not to worry if the smell cannabis, I have a prescription and I’m just loading my medication for use outside. I was very polite but explained rather than asked permission. It seemed to work well!

I think this is a useful way to introduce shops to the idea and be comfortable around MC.

This is how I have started quite a few positive relationships with venues.

I have always tried to take this approach in general.
I tell people what is going to happen rather than ask for approval.
I recommend to try the technique next time anyone needs to ask for holiday at work!

All for it within common sense limits. E,g, not smoking a blim or bong in the vicinity of kids, adhere to vaping guidance indoors unless its an emergency, etc
e.g. "Don't be a dick about it mate" (not you!)and ruin it for everyone.
