A lot tend to use word of mouth as in others patients experiences like this thread then get a feel for why it works for them but often Kush's of varying strengths can be a good starting point as generally they are relaxing/sedating to different levels also some of the best sleep strains are higher THC but I wouldn't discount many 20 - 25 % strains as these can quite easily do the trick.By what criteria do you normally try to pick out the sleepers? I personally being fairly new to this simply go on high% THC normally 25+ and indicate dominant. I also have been avoiding gamma radiation since my first script. Thought morning sun would ko me, but alas didn’t.
Indica Hybrid is going along the right lines but each strain has a different terpene make up and some times terpenes like terpinoline shine through and would not assist with sleep quite the contrary in my experience so that maybe a terpene to try to avoid for such needs like sleeping
