Hi, we are travelling to Majorca in a couple of weeks time and applying for a permit for my partner's meds I was wondering if anyone knew what the current wait time for permits was as due to clinic delays etc we are cutting it a bit fine.
Many Thanks
Kate

Hello @Kate + welcome (y)

Which permit would this be - would this be with the Embassy or?

I haven't travelled with meds and I understand it varies per country but maybe someone here knows. This link here may offer some info https://medbud.wiki/map/patient-travel/

Hi, we travelled to Gran Canaria last year and had to get a permit for my partner's flower and oil we got the permit in around a week but panicking as this time we are late to apply. Last time we applied or
estupefacientes@aemps.es, initially they directed us to the embassy but they never got back to us so the medicines authority let us apply directly through them 🙏

I'm like Manuel "I know nothing!" so maybe this lovely man @GrownHealth might know - at least who or which organisation to ask? Have you tried your own clinic for advice @Kate ?

This is what we've got for Spain and I'd imagine when you ask your clinic for the travel letter they will clear up if any further documentation is needed specifically for Majorca but I'd imagine this would be treated as mainland Spain where as the Canary Islands could be treated different .
I'd suggest contacting your clinic to email you a travel letter and prescription for printing off if this speeds things up .

We went to Tenerife with no permit last year, just a travel letter.

We intend to do the same again this June for Mallorca, will give you a shout with how smooth it goes ready for your travels in July 🙂

I know it's possible to go with a travel letter only, but that's not the official way, and I just don't want to be at the mercy of a random border guard, who might be in an eff tourists mood lol
Totally get you mate 🤜🏼

I am doing some research via multiple AIs now and found this ultimately, so be careful!

Pro Tip for 2026: Under the 2025 Royal Decree (903/2025), Spain has tightened its own domestic medical cannabis rules. While this doesn't stop you from bringing your own, it does mean customs officers are more "switched on" about checking for the proper AEMPS paperwork than they were a few years ago. Having that permit makes you an "authorized patient" rather than a "tourist with a bag of weed."

Definitely start making contact with the embassy as soon as your prescription arrives, they're a fussy bunch and aren't the quickest at communicating.

I have went for the official AEMPS permit today, will let you know how fast I get it.

I am still a bit worried for you @TheGreenAvenger ! Everywhere I see, a lot of these Spanish bureucratical changes around flower mean, officials are actually a lot more aware about these AEMPS requirements and if you have the right paperwork or not.

edit: ok "everywhere" might be an overstatement as I can't find a single thread right now about this, and my access to Reddit got limited since I won't be providing them my id lol. But still, be very careful. The whole thing is becoming more by-the-books over there.

I apply on the regular for spanish permits, you'll get them in under a week providing you write to them in Spanish. If you send an english email you're not getting a reply at all, or at least not fast.

It's very unlikely to see outgoing issues mind you. Just because of the lack of eyes, especially at Palma airport. strikes all over the place at the moment.

The thing with medical in spain and spanish territories is that it doesn't exist, there's no distinction between medical and recreational. So even the right paperwork only allows you to carry it, not to consume in public which is where a lot of people tend to fall foul and end up in a bit of hot water. I myself had issues in Barcelona airport for using my cart, not carrying.

Oh, I sent them the official format they require that's in English and Spanish too. I have 7 weeks until travel so... left it enough time hopefully.

I know I can't freely consume, I will limit it to the hotel balcony, with closed doors, with a Sploofy.

Did you translate the actual email you send over as well? Just to be like Hi, here are the forms.

I believe they have limited english speakers so anything in english takes a bit longer as they have to make sure the email, letter, etc. is translated correctly.

I only email in Spanish now, I used to give an english and spanish translation like this -

To whom it may concern,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to inquire about the procedures and regulations regarding traveling to Barcelona, Spain with prescribed medical cannabis.

I am planning to visit from XXXXX 2026 for a work trip, However, before finalizing my travel plans, I wanted to ensure that I have all the necessary information regarding the transportation of my prescribed medication.

I currently hold a valid prescription for medical cannabis, which has been duly prescribed to me by a licensed doctor in the United Kingdom. As medical cannabis is a controlled substance, I understand the importance of adhering to the legal requirements and regulations of both my home country and the destination country. As such I have attached all of the relevant documents in PDF format for your review.

I truly appreciate your attention to this matter and would be grateful if you could provide me with the necessary guidance and information to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. I eagerly await your response.

Best regards

A quien corresponda:

Saludos cordiales

Whenever I do it in Spanish I get replies within a week. Last time i got a reply and approval over new years. When I do it in English it takes like 3 weeks.
