"Best Rosin Pressing Temperature & Time?

While this is likely the most debated topic of rosin pressing, there are generally two temperature ranges that we press rosin within.

Cold Pressing: 70°C - 88°C or 160°F - 190°F. This temperature range is generally accompanied by a longer pressing time of somewhere between 1-5 minutes wich produces a budder like consistency.

Hot Pressing: 88°C - 105°C or 190°F - 220°F. This range is usually accompanied by a shorter pressing time of between 45 seconds and 3 minutes and produces an oily or shatter like consistency.

Generally, people consider cold pressing to produce higher quality rosin but with a sacrifice in yield. In contrast, hot pressing is said to achieve more rosin but with a sacrifice in quality. But with so many variabilities, it's always good to experiment and see what works best for you. "

💯, I have been trying to get 20%+ back with irradiated and the only way is to take it over 104°c, that's why my temps were right up to get 20%+ back. At 98°c I'm getting 17% back with irradiated maybe 18% back which is good with 22%THC irradiated. Yeah I'm finding it difficult to get 20% or plus back within ranges. My mate said he's got a jar full of small buds, full of trichs, so I'm going to see what I get back from some of this street stuff and see what difference it makes for returns. I'm really getting into this now 👍
From what i read last night it's only the MC that is shit for rosin! hopefully your mates will come out way better! I have a mate with a bag of white widow vacume sealed from his harvest, we are going to press that next time he comes up from down south, this i expect will give the yellow wax we desire.
I might risk some pave s1 tomorrow, as its the freshest and non irradiated bud i have.

I've just done another press within the hot temp range 100°c with a 120 micron bag and got back between 20.5-21% back, the 120 micron bag has given me more back than the 90 micron bags.

Yes it will, lots more. But the effect on smoking it should feel weaker hit than the more pure 90 micron. Depending if you want quantity 120 or quality 90.

48hrs of cure and the KK Mints, bubble bath and zour apples have now turned into maluable dark oily squidgy lumps, you can squeeze and shape them for about a minute until they become warm and sticky. Full on terpenes aroma when dabbed very strong hit. The GMO is now a big dark ruby crystal like lump that may require a diamond cutting tool!

I was wondering, I've read that after pressing, you should collect the used sacks until you have enough to make edibles like Canna butter by boiling the sacks in boiling butter and water. I was wondering again 😂, is it right you can open the sacks up and add the waste inside to your pvb??

Wow, the strawberry glue shatter I made is absolutely Gorgeous 😍, the taste through the Crossing Coil King A10 is amazing, every inhalation is very tasty, the effects are really good, its definitely a better experience than my Crafty+ with flower👍. My Ruby Twist is with my Postal Provider, I reckon Tuesday I'll be giving some feedback on this 😉😃

I can taste more of the Gorilla Glue in it 😋

Yes, you can make butter, coconut oil,RSO etc using the pucks, one of the reasons I moved away from bags was because regardless of what standards they pass, I don't fancy melted press bag in whatever I make

I didn't think about that, they are supposed to be top grade bags but there are some bags that probably hold bleaching agents ect in the material (the cheaper ones). I seen a vid and they said they chuck their used sack towards their pvb. I thought, is there a way of opening the bags and emptying the waste out. It would be very hard to do and messy, maybe they meant something else as another use.

There's ways, I'm just a bit nervy about anything that looks plastic, so if it's never been near, then I'm happy to take the slightly lower concentrate full spectrum I get from using no bags :)

I've not pressed without bags, when I have a bit more flower to play with, I'll give it a go.

Might try this and just use a couple of buds as it makes sense rather than a big spaced out bag where as it'll be more squashable in this sort of shape with alittle depth to it (y)
I've seen the pre-press blocks you can get, you can probably make something up around the home

Obviously this will work, with a max yield as well, but it will be full of contaminents in from the bud, they may not be visible but must be there, the point of the 90 micron is to only allow the trichomes through I thought?

When I did it without a bag the first time it was pretty ok and the remnants of plant was easily removed so I'll give it a go in the little puck maker and see what mess I can make ;) and the main thing here is I can do a gram or so without the bag where as the bag needs a fair bit to even half fill it.

So trichomes are varying sizes and the idea is that you limit the trich size with bags, but show me anywhere that states the waxy lipids and other contaminants aren't smaller than 90 microns. I assume they are otherwise 100% THC rosin would be easily achievable by squisihing in bags. I'm not sure how you expect to get the yield in line with the strains THC% when you are effectively excluding any Trichomes between 91 and whatever the max trichome size is.
Defo, not paying for a block!
I use my pollen press :)

to be honest I'm pretty sceptical abou the whole micron thing when squishing as I've studied the end result under 60x magnification and most everything is broken and burst. Think about it, we get warned about how much damage handling does to trichomes on bud, how much damage exposures to heat and light does, so heating to a 100 degrees celsius and banging 10,000+ lbs of pressure through it are definitely mashing it up no?
