Vapes Ruby Twist

Okay first attempt! I did GMO T30 7 gramms in 2 x 3.5 batches. broke bud up into an even layer into a 90 micron bag, pressed cold with a bottle! At 200 light touch press 30 secs, harder 30 secs, harder 30 secs, full press (could not press more) 30 secs. Yield .93g from 7g.

This has come out almost like shatter, I can touch and manipulate without sticky, I was slow on the parchment scraping and little bits flew all over the kitchen, nightmare, sticking to the table and floor tiles, much scraping up! Lesson learned if it comes out shatter like scrape in a container! Note I put bag to close to fold.

Second attempt: 3.5g of KK Mints T27: broke bud up into an even layer into a 90 micron bag, pressed cold with a bottle! At 200 light touch press 30 secs, harder 30 secs, harder 30 secs, full press (could not press more) 30 secs. Yield from 3.5g was .35g
This time a sticky mess, can't touch it way too sticky, was a hassle getting it to drop from tool to container! Loaded a dab of this into the mighty for later..

How was the flower for moisture?

Phew, its only the lever to the bottom valve on the bottle jack, so at an angle makes sense.
It looks wrong but makes perfect sense at the same time 🙃 and I'm contemplating a practice before the bags arrive hopefully tomorrow

That's what mine was like at high temp 190 and its easier to work with at lower temps but a lovely start and I imagine it'll be pretty effective 🤣

So both buds came out way darker than I was expecting and the same process made 2 totally different rosin's from different buds. A worryingly low yield? I don't know as first go.
I might try at 190 tomorrow and see the diffrence if there is one on the KK mints. None of the 3 batches had rosin dripping down the paper like you see on YouTube.
Good fun! Kitchen is a stinking sticky mess, big misses trouble later if i do not get it all sorted!!

You'll get the hang of it, trial and error makes you a better presser 😅

But online guides say 190 is not high? I had noted 180 - 200 for cold and 200-220 for hot on flower, but this says:

"Hot pressing is ideal for achieving an oily or shatter-like consistency. You can also achieve a smooth, creamy texture at temperatures between 180°F and 200°F. Terpene preservation is slightly lower but still good as long as you stay below 220°F. Hot pressing is generally recommended for flower rosin and dry sift rosin, and it’s typically done in shorter intervals — often between 45 seconds and 3 minutes."

"With so many variables to consider, it can be difficult to find the sweet spot in terms of temperature. If you’re just seeking a general guideline, we’ve found the greatest success within the 210°F - 220°F range for flower rosin"

Perhaps i will try 180 tomorrow!!

So my yield on the GMO was only 13% on the KK Mints 11% This is poor as I read you should get around 20% yield. But 200 and 90 micron may account, as in 120 micron at 210 would have given more.
Rosin yield calculator: https://calculatorgallery.com/rosin-yield-calculator/
Bags been dispatched now and whilst we get used to it hopefully we'll get the knack and hit reasonable yields.

That's why I am sharing my efforts and mistakes!!
We all have different types of presses and plate sizes, different flower types, it all has to be taken into account. Theres different types of irriadiation in the flower too, Just playing about enough with the press, tweaks here and there, we'll soon get there 💪

I go as low as 165, even if you end up with some thca as long as you are vaping above 165 it will convert. You should get more towards the wax/budder type consistency at those temps. I have also foubd that if you let it oxidises a little then sit for a day or two it can go from an oily shatter consistency to a creamier consistency. You can also whip it to change consistency I guess the whipping aexposes to air and similarly oxidises etc. There are some decent groups on facebook for this and hash making, I can post up links if helpful?

I just read people cure it, ie leave it alone for at least 48 hrs, some for a week!

So next test:
180 3.5g bubble bath, 20 secs very light press, 30 secs press, 30 secs full press 90 micron = .12g
180 3.5g bubble bath, 20 secs very light press, 30 secs press, 30 secs full press 120 micron = .26g
7gramms bubble to .38g = 5.5% yield = aweful!!!

So the higher previous temp gave way more, and the 120 micron gives nearly double.

I am going to wait for you all to post your temps, times, how hard you press and what bud before i do more as 7 - 13% yield is bad. We should be getting around 20% - i have now tried 3 buds.

All of mine has come out way to dark i feel, or is that the quality bud i have used?!

Try a pre-warm. I put just enough pressure on that you can't move the paper/puck and let pre heat for 90 seconds. Also at lower temps I press for longer.
