Hi everyone,
I’m a new patient. I’ve been prescribed oil and will have my first dose tonight. It will be interesting to see/feel how I react to the oil.
I smoked BM quite a bit for a few months over 25yrs ago. Back then the effect of it was generally that I talked non-stop until the high passed. I also usually got the munchies and ate enough food to feed a large family!
I definitely hope to find strains that do not make me over eat as I don’t want to swap one problem for another as I have a constant battle with overeating and weight control.
Can anyone advise me of any strains that would be best to try or to avoid?
If I do progress onto leaf….are there any beginners guides on the process - features of strains /how to vape etc? I’m a little overwhelmed by the amount of information /lingo surrounding this. I’m looking for something really, really basic if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks for any help/advice given

Hi. Its a bit hit n miss and subjective to give an accurate pinpoint answer. But form my experience its a bit pot luck all of it. In saying that though, I am leaning towards small batch producers, although that can carry an associated higher risk, and so far I think I prefer Indica over Sativa strains, but that's just me. I often do a bit of geeky tinternet research and look up the cannabis company to view their glossy marketing and to gauge a feel for new strains etc (Geek-Mode). That don't mean you'll get exactly what you see by the time its been processed to meet strict UK conservative stiff upper-lip regulations IMO. Half the fun of it is the non-static forever evolving selections on offer, which incidentally is and has been developing in the right way for us consumers with new strains from new brands. I can only advise you on flower I'm afraid as I do not get on with oils.

Thank you - I’ll experiment over time I guess 👍

If you are looking to control appetite then strains with Humulene terpene in may be helpful as it can act like an appetite suppressant

For your other questions, there aren't really guides we just tend to ask the questions we have and get answers from each other in the community

Fire away with specifics either here or in other threads and people will do their best to answer and help you out / direct you to other resources. You can also search the forums for key words to see threads where someone may have answered your questions already.

It's a whole new universe of terminology and gadgets and so on and it's very normal to feel a bit out of depth. People here are friendly though and will help get you up to speed 😊

With dry herb vapourisers, you buy flower usually in 10g increments.

The vapes can either use a capsule system (little metal bullets) to put the flower in, or it just goes direct into the oven chamber of the machine. Using a grinder you grind up the flower and put a bit in

The machine heats it to a point in a temp range, usually from 180 - 200 but some people prefer higher or lower - you'd find your own sweet spot or like me do a sweep of temps on each session of flower

That's a very simple look at vaping, but feel free to ask away

thanks a lot for the reply….the vapourisers (I’m hoping to buy a venty soon)….if you load it and take a couple of draws in it and leave some unused, does that effectively waste the remainder meaning I would need to work out how much to put in?
Thanks for your help

You can do that with the venty, it doesn't waste the remainder as such but you can end up getting a burnt taste eventually if you go too long or too hot or too many sessions

As you say you could just put less flower in the bullets in the first place, or put more in and use them as many times as you're happy with - maybe starting first go at a low temp and a later go at a higher one and then ditch it.

Another option is maybe you could try the vape cartridges first as you can use those literally one huff at a time and get used to the concept of vaping. The most commom fitment is called '510' and the pharmacy posts you a little vial with this 510 connector on the bottom. You have to buy a '510 Vape Battery' to use them, but they are quite cheap and my latest battery was £19

Thanks for your reply…I will look into the vapes. The venty sounds more flexible than I initially thought - thanks

When using the venty…if you have loaded up the chamber, how do you know that the leaf has been used up? Does the taste change? My only experience is of smoking to it was obvious to the user …
I’ve ordered everything I need (I think) so looking forward to getting going

Colour changes and taste changes eventually, you can whip the lid off and have a peek after a session -the flower will go browner the more you use it.

It's all new and unknown at the moment but you will soon get a good feel for it all once you've had a few hours with it, and feel free to pop back here with more questions when you've started using it

Yeah, the taste can be like a popcorn taste when its getting to the stage of being near used, a bit unpleasant for some, including me, that's when it goes into the ABV pot for later use.
