Intros Newbie, Anxiety questions!

I never anticipated the terpenes being so important, but they are. So far, I have learned that any with Myrcene as major relaxes me and aids sleep. Limonene major has blown my sinuses apart in a good way, they now work, after 3 weeks of Bafokeng Choice as my daytime vape. I will learn a lot more from my new script where I have 6 to try, all with quite different terpenes profiles, most Indica based.
Add to this your learning about terpenes without prejudices a lot of flower users hold so your observations on terpenes could be invaluable to even the most experienced flower user (y)
Terpenes seems to be the new cutting edge of understanding canna effects and treatments and is really interesting too.

Thankyou @BlackSheepVegan @Moon

The way you all mentioned Sativas effects have reasured me alot here, so what I'm experiencing is completely normal! Now I've read some of these posts I should have a better perspective of what's going on.

I'll definitely be looking at the cheaper Indicas for my next script, lots to research! Thanks all of you big help today.

Thanks for the welcome @Turnster

Sometimes just knowing that your not alone in what you are experiencing can help make the feeling less intense, as your body starts to naturally take in the information.

It's like talking to a family member that never listens but then your friend says the same thing and they agree

You can tell your head your ok all you want, but sometimes the outside perspective helps your over working mind settle in the background.

Yeah my damn overthinking mind, it's what it does best most of the time.
So, we’re animals right? Physiologically and biologically, even emotionally to a degree.

We live in such an overstimulating and unnecessarily stressful world, that our bodies are often in fight or flight mode 90% of the time, because our central nervous system gets so dis regulated.

Like no, that’s not a potential threat to our lives in the shape of a bear while foraging this morning Kyle, it’s just a late email deadline.

The hormonal and physical response is the same. Our bodies haven’t evolved as fast as society, and the world we live in, has.

That overthinking brain, the one that’s so cumbersome now, would have been the best brain to keep you alive in the wild. You have an evolutionary advantage, it’s just not really helpful now. Sorry 😂

BUT that said, plant medicine, and cannabis are one of the ways we can tap into that primal power to calm us down, help to regulate our minds and bodies. The same way the other ancient remedies help, tapping, meditation, meditative art, breath work, mantras, running, sport and physical activity for some. For me, gardening, being in nature, forests and trees, hearing the wind and birds. These can give me instant relief, and I know now what things can help me take it down a notch.

I’m not claiming to have any medical advice here. Purely my own experience, and those of ALOT of people I know who’ve battled with busy overactive minds and anxiety all their lives, but stripping life back, removing modern things and stressors, as much as possible, have only helped.

*promise I’m not just an ageing hippy, I’ve really found myself the last year, and I was a fucking wreck every day before hand

After reading the thread I see you have hit the nail on the head. I will talk from my own perspective, your mileage may vary. After 35 years of dealing with my mental health which includes anxiety I've realised this; Looking for a 'singular' answer to my problem was a fool's errand. I spent years trying medications, therapies etc etc etc. However, I now use yes, medical cannabis but also and of equal value is some mindfulness, medication, some things I learnt from therapy, structure and I do a 'gratitude exercise' each morning.
It took me many years to learn that 'anxiety lives in the future, depression tends to live in the past and that where I need to be is in the present'. For me when I was only doing one of the above it simply did not work for me and this includes sole reliance on cannabis. Like I said, other mileage may vary lol.
As far as strains go, in my experience pure Sativa strains or even Sativa Hybrid strains are not helpful for anxiety, they tend to activate your cognitive process whereas with anxiety you are looking to slow and distract the process. However, for 'mood management' I find them very helpful. I have a lot of symptoms during my sleep that left unaddressed leave me exhausted upon waking. More Indica Hybrid strains not only aid getting to sleep for me but also go a long way to eliminate other symptoms.
Through the BM I was able to learn this much about my responses to cannabis, I am now able to refine this further by identifying useful terpene/cannabinoid profiles which are useful to me. (I'm developing a spreadsheet lol nerdgasm)
Hearing others experience has been really useful to me and so I hope this is of some use. I wish you well ;)

@BlackSheepVegan happy to hear your well and sounds like a journey to get to where you are :) I sometimes wish I was born in simpler times rather than the society we have now. I'd be on the hippy trail for sure!

@utopiate thanks for some more info and sharing your thoughts it's all a huge help! I'm going to be researching some Indica for my next script, and your right there is not just one thing that can resolve all our issues like a magic wand.. I hate when a psychiatrist or therapist ask if they had a wand what would I want them to change or fix.

lol yeah it's based on 'the miracle question', which if done well can open up the discussion. But yeah it can sound condescending AF lol

I Must be lucky i never ever get Anxiety or Paranoia or any if the side effects i hear some get with Sativas. I find Sativa Indica make me feel drowsy as well but i think you should avoid Sativas and try the CBD and THC oils and Indica flower. I suspect for you a small dose of something like the Clearleaf® French Macaron would be good. CBD is key here you gotta start using CBD.

I never used too all the years I used to smoke, but as I have found out I have no tolerance built up.

Good news is i had a vape not long ago but used roughly half the amount of Flower and I'm feeling good not feeling too intense of a ride. Thanks all! :)

Been great to see so many come forward with their own experiences and share with @Ryan what they find helps and hinders with mental health and coping mechanism's and ways to try and prevent symptoms arising.
I know I'll learn a lot re-reading this thread many times and feel it'll help many in the future also. (y)

Yeah tolerance build up will be a thing with the initial racyness I think.

I look at it now as a 5-minute intense window, possibly it's something like the medicine making it's way to the bloodstream and then it's all good once it's there.

Whatever really causes it, the awareness you're not alone in that, and that hopefully you'll get used to it, will hopefully help in the short term.

Sounds like you're already tweaking things to make the adjustment period a little easier - only other thing to recommend is perhaps try some of the balanced strains which have CBD as well as THC.

Here's one I'm having this morning actually, very nice and no racyness:

Hi Ryan, I can highly recommend a Mighty vaporiser and the dosing pods, expensive but well worth it, the dosing pods hold 0.15g of flower, so almost the perfect size for your prescription. I've been vaping one dosing pod (two if it's Friday/Saturday) once a day in the evening for many years and still have quite a low tollerence. If I vape a hole dosing pod, I get that "I'm too high" feeling and a little anxious for a good 20-30 minutes which isn't pleasant, but after that passes, I'm all good and my brain is allowed to do nothing for a couple of hours, which is BLISS.

Since getting MC, I have started loading a pod, and just hitting it maybe 3/4/5 times as and when I feel I need it throughout the day, if I'm not working or needing to drive. Doesn't get me "high" and just takes the edge off the brain fog enough. A single pod usually lasts me all day which makes it very cost effective! I might have another pod in the evening when I'm sat on the sofa with nothing else to do as it does tend to "knock me for six".

I hope your journey with MC is as successful as it's been for me and many others.

Welcome to the forum @Swanny32 and nice to see your having a good experience with your MC journey and it's great how your tolerance is low helping to keep costs in check whilst getting all you need from the medicine and some good advice there on how to keep tolerance down for people stepping onto MC.
Once again welcome to the forum 👏

Thanks mate @GrownHealth Great to hear your doing good! And it's great as you'll be speaking from experiences similar to myself then.

I haven't had anything in over 2 years so my tolerance would be very low and im aware of this. I was prescribed Humble warrior for daytime use starting at 0.1g a day and build up over time.

So when I vape that 0.1g I initially feel quite anxious and a little self conscious, it's as if it's amplified how I really feel. This is for around 20 or 30 minutes and then after that I feel uplifted and content for a few hours. I know it's early days still in the first week but I overthink everything as usual.
I get the same problem and feelings with anything Sativa leaning, now I stick to Indica and have no problems at all.
