Good morning,

This is my first ever post in a forum. I am 58 next year. I suffer from long term chronic pain.

The his has impact on my daily life. I have been prescribed large doses of opioids/ opiate based pain medication.

I am hoping that someone could help me with advice.

I have used cannabis flowers since the late 80s. I am too old to keep sourcing for myself. Due to possible legal issues.

Which is the best UK based company to register with?

Does anyone get prescribed a strain the is effective for chronic pain? If anyone is prescribed dried flowers for chronic pain could you advise on dosage and anyone else prescribed for any other medical conditions. I am wanting to understand what range in grams per month is considered a low dose, medium dose and a high dose. I will happily compile all responses and share on this thread.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone can share any URLs or documentation about dosages and grams per month.

If you were to run out before your next prescription, do you have any adverse effects?

I would like to do the right thing. Are there any independent regulator for medical cannabis, that can provide information, independent of company you are a patient/customer.

At end of tether pain wise - do other people’s mood and self esteem get effected by chronic pain.

Have a good Monday folks.

Many thanks in advance to any and all that take the time to help me out.

Warmest Regards

hello and welcome to the group.

the best clinic is a difficult question to answer as they all have some good and bad points, the best thing you can do is look for a clinic within your budget and contact them and go from there, you will quickly get a feel from the response if they are right for you.

I'm a pain patient and yes there are flower strains that work brilliantly but what works for me might not work for you as everyone is different, recommendations are a good place to start but then it comes down to trial and error.

how many grams per day is variable as everyone has a different tolerance, but i would say 0.5g per day or less is fairly common amongst patients.

mood and overall well being are definitely affected by chronic pain, its very common and is something i struggle with.

hope this helps and gets you started

I am on 1-1.2g a day (mental patient, not pain tho), and while that can be called medium-high usage, there are many people even on these forums who have a 90-120g monthly prescription, so "high use" can be anything like 2-3g a day, which doses seems to be more common for pain patients as I understand. It really depends on your tolerance and well how much of it will actually start melting that pain. This is for you and your doc to establish when getting to know you.

Welcome, I use up to 1.5 - 2g of flower a day, take sublingual oil in addition, and have vape cartridges. I also include CBD into the mix via balanced dried flowers, in the oil, and with CBD-only over-the-counter vape cartridges

I don't run out, Drs have been good at allowing a bit of 'headroom' on allowances, so that I am in a position after a year and a half on medical of having a constant comfortable rider of meds, possibly about a month's worth

Running out itself would be bad and cause me untold trouble with my disabilities and long-term conditions, and even just getting close to running out can cause huge anxiety.
The thing is consumption can vary, based on how effective a given strain is, how your symptoms are at a point in time, and lots of other factors, so the allowances should definitely be viewed as a 'maximum'

Welcome @Cluaran65
You could join a free clinic and you have a monthly allowance so that you don't run out.

There are loads of good strains for mood and pain relief as well. I have stopped taking other medications of the doctor now since I started medical cannabis and feel a lot better for it.

You will be able to ask your medical cannabis doctor about limits and what might work best for you as well and it is all regulated

Welcome to the Community @Cluaran65.
I'm a long time Cannabis user like yourself and many others on here.
You've made the right move regarding the legal aspect of becoming a Cannabis Patient, your able to drive if you feel ok to do so for a start!
The list goes on.
You'll be able to pick from many strains that you think will suit you rather than get what your given with what can happen with BM.

Thanks folks, 30g lasts me about 16 days is that excessive? Being without flowers feel like pain and mood is worse. I am wanting to understand . How I get sufficient or stop.

Cheers

Sounds like you need 60g a Month, it would be a good idea to mention it to your clinic ASAP so your not going without for too long mate

Don't think about it like that. Getting high for the sake of it? THEN 2g a day is a lot, yes.

But Medicating to stop actual pain, and you need 2g for it to happen? Then that is your required dose.

Absolutely 100% spot on @GreenRed.

The required minimum dose will depend on the effect that the flower has on you and how much you need to manage your condition(s).

I am managing pain and I was using a minimum of 2g per day of BM flower, sometimes I would just quit using altogether as I couldn’t feel any medical effect. When I started using Medical, my use went up in month 1 as I made a random selection of flowers that weren’t really effective. Since my 2nd prescription my use has slowly come down to 1.5g per day and holding steady. During this time I’ve also increased my CBD intake.

From what you have said I don’t see why you wouldn’t get the green light to be a medical patient.

I’ve only been with 1 clinic as I’m still relatively new to MC but do think about how much clinical support you want from your chosen clinic or if you prefer to manage the clinical aspect more independently as different clinics offer different levels of input / control.

I have gone a little tonto this month. from nothing for months to a sudden feast! admittedly the strains prescribed are different to what I usually have.

So far Ive rattled through about 50+ grams and 12ml oil since 26th (very high tolerance). sore but nowhere as near as i was before.

I will invest in some scales (yes!! BM for years and no scales!!!) and start actually measuring it out like a medication instead of this "famine or feast" mnetality i've developed over the past 30 odd years.
